Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review

I decided to dig out an old archive video game review I made a while back (according to my computer, May 8th, 2011) for Super Mario Galaxy 2. I thought I might post it on here, and post new reviews later. Anyway, here it is. c:

(NOTE: This is just my opinion, and I do love SMG. Just wanted to point out that I do like SMG as much as SMG2.)

When I first got my hands on this game, I was ultra-excited. I already loved the first game, and I thought this game would be just as fun. In fact, I was wrong. The sequel to SMG was, in a way, more fun. Don't get me wrong, the first Galaxy is a classic and I still enjoy it, it's just SMG2 put more depth in its levels, and did some more wacky stuff.
Graphics. Where do I start? Let's just say that I am the ultimate Mario fan, and I know how the graphics look like in all the games. Compared to the first 3D graphics in Super Mario 64 and then Super Mario Sunshine, it seems like the graphics for Super Mario Galaxy 2 can't get any better. To be honest, even though the graphics for this game is pretty much equivalent to the first Galaxy, this game has more colorful levels, giving it a brighter feeling.
Music is also nicely done. Continuing the musical style of Super Mario Galaxy, a lot of the score in this game is orchestral, performed by The Super Mario Galaxy Orchestra. I have to say, this game, in my honest opinion, has the best music for any game I've ever played. The game also features remixes of some older songs, such as the Bob-Omb Battlefield music (originally from Super Mario 64) or the Super Mario World Athletic Theme.
Which reminds me, level layout is also great. For anyone who is as much of a Mario fan as me, you can't go wrong with the Throwback Galaxy, which is a homage and almost a complete duplicate of the world Whomp Fort in Super Mario 64.
Starting in Super Mario World, and then in Super Mario Sunshine and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, you've been able to ride on Yoshi through the level. If it felt lonely for you to have no Yoshi in Super Mario Galaxy, then you'll probably be pleased with the fact that you'll be able to ride on Yoshi in certain galaxies. And for the first time ever in a game in the main Mario series, Yoshi has his own special power-ups. For example, if he eats the Dash Fruit, he'll briefly run so fast you'll have to hold on to your cap. This can be useful for when two walls of lava on opposite sides are closing in on you quickly and you have to escape or if you have to run up a gigantic wall.
Mario came a long way, from one of his first adventures in Super Mario Bros., all the way to his grand, out-of-this-world adventure in the cosmos. I proudly give this game a shining 10/10. It's truly flawless.

Rating: 10/10

I fully agree with the 10/10 rating. This game was masterfully done. The soundtrack is the best game soundtrack that I've heard. Nice review!

So long, 1.4.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review

Yoshi had his own special power-ups in super mario world (if you ate a blue shell as yoshi, yoshi would grow wings and could fly, if you ate a red shell yoshi breathed fire, etc)

anyway, good review, though it was a little biased

Yeah, probably. But I think I write better nowadays.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review

It’s a classic and one of the best games of all time. In the MG2 Mario is back for another space travelling journey.

Double post much?  tongue

One of my favorite tracks was Squizzard's battle theme. There were two different versions: One when Mario was normal, and one when Mario had the Fire Flower. The normal version of the song sounds cool and mysterious. Then, when you grab the Fire Flower, the song smoothly progresses to a souped-up version of the Fire Mario theme!
