Ok. So, today I tried to convince my mom to let me buy MineCraft (I'm thinking if getting the full version), & she said no, even though I said I'd pay with my own money (which usually doesn't happen around my house, since I have 2 younger siblings). I was bummed out that my mom said no, but soon, I had an idea! Mabye I can buy MineCraft if I can convince my mom that it's educational! Soon after, I went on google & looked up “reasons minecraft is educational”! Within the first page, I found tons of good reasons that MineCraft is educational! I was thinking of showing my resources to my mom in the morning, but then I had another idea: Why not write an essay about the topic! I've come up with the title: MineCraft- A fun game with educational purposes! My resources so far are here, here, here, & here! I would also like to hear your thoughts! Post your resources & ideas here!

Umm... Hello? Did you see the resources I posted in the first post?
On the serious side, I'm open to hearing many opinions!

I'd disagree. It teaches several things, including community building and social skills on servers, perseverance, and it's a great creative outlet.

Exactly!

It's actually pulled me away from education by being so addicting.
That's kindof a responsibility issue though. I'm able to keep my grades high, & do fun stuff.

Minecraft teaches creativity, expression in ones feelings and connecting with others. I don't see why your mother wouldn't allow you to buy it.
Exactly! My mom is seriously unreasonable a lot of the time.

I'm pretty sure I could figure out how to use experiences from MC if I ever got into a situation where I was stuck in the forest.
No, it doesn't include punching trees.

Good point. Wilderness Survival is a big key in MC & real life!

No, it doesn't include punching trees.
But it does involve trying to go meters into the ground in a matter of a day with stuff made of wood?

That too, in a sense.

My cousin actually creates his school projects/assignments in Minecraft. He wanted to create a printing press for his project, but that was a little too advanced apparently, but I'm sure there are other projects you could do for school. So I would assume that's a good reason to get it.

Writing essays is a good way to convince parents, they see how much you want it because you put so much effort into the essay.

Please note that an 9th grader in my schoo made a 2d model of the human body that has a animated digestive system and chomping teeth xD

How about a website where MineCraft is being used as a classroom tool? It's actually a blog, but you can read through the teachers experience of using MineCraft in his lessons.

But a day is a lot longer in real life than in MC, so you'd have the time.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas so far!
@cheddargirl, great! I'll add that to my list of resources!
@Lanternenpfahl, I figured writing an essay would be a good idea. A ninth grader made a digestive system model? Awesome! My science class is finishing off the human body system unit for the end of the trimester! (Yes. My school does trimesters. Not semesters or quarters)
@Magnie, good point. Plus, many people have used MC in school for educational purposes, so I don't know why my mom won't let me get it.

Better than an essay...how about a slideshow presentation, maybe in Scratch? When you're trying to sell higher management (your mom in this case) on an idea, they are often more responsive to colorful graphics and a good oral argument than to an essay. Then, have the links to the resources available in an email follow-up letter.
If you need slideshow templates, I have a collection of slideshow projects over here.

Does she know you can use it for educational purposes? Maybe find some examples (like youtube videos) that you can show her.

Such as the blog that cheddar posted.

I've never played it, so I'm not the best to speak, but I've gotta agree with everyone who's said that it is educational. It improves creativity, perseverance, and many other things.
