Re: scratch website V2

That's like newgrounds sort of and scratch isn't that kind of place these features would never work in such a diverse/non-competitive community.

I've taken a long hiatus, but I still visit sometimes. Give me some time to answer any messages you post on my projects!

Re: scratch website V2

profile updates:
-{levels system: Seems nice, but no real need for it
-a number representing many things
-your level is calculated by your:
+# of friends
+# of projects
+average rating of projects}
-{user rating: No... Trolls could vote 1 just to depress users.
-people can vote on your user judging by anything they want
-1-10 out of 10 voting system}
-{producer ranking:
-your rank is decided by average rating for all of your projects Again, Trolls.
-somewhere on the website there will be user ranking list}
-{player ranking:
-your player ranking is judged by how many points you have
-points from awards in games or voting}
-{blogs:
-users now have another place to post there information on upcoming stuff
-blogs will be located at the beginning of the profile page
-only 3 blogs can be displayed at one time on the profile
-other users can comment on the blogs, creator of the blog post can reply to comments} Could waste space; you could just go and create a blog.

project page updates:
-{voting:
-kill the love its, they're more like favorites I sorta agree.
-voting in a system of 1-10 out of 10 *sigh*
-you're allowed to vote once per day Hmmm, could stop trolls but what if they created alternate accounts, AND there are many trolls?
-there will be an average rating near the project notes}
-{comments/reviews:
-comments will remain mostly the same
-there will be an optional vote section where you can give your score which is 1-10 out of 10} Well, this one can be done on the comments. (Ex: Very good, 10/10)
-{awards:
-this is the more complex update of any and will have to be released with an update to scratch itself
-awards are given out by two ways:
+#1: you earn it in a project by completing a certain task
=to add an award there will be four extra sections in the scratch upload section
=there will be an area for name, description, point value, and variable trigger and variable trigger value
=the variable trigger is the name of the variable and the value is how much the variable must equal to set of the handing out of the corresponding award
=[extra note: this can be changed to a broadcast also if you'd like] I don't get it. If you mean by scripts no, n00bs could just go copy it from someone else.
+#2: you are put up on the front page in one of the numerous categories}
-{download lock:
-in the upload section on scratch there will be an option to lock downloads Maybe, but isn't Scratch supposed to be a cooperative community?
-this prevents users other than the creator of the project from downloading the project}

-front page changes:
-{new categories:
-love its is changed to highest voted No, no.
-only featured, highest voted, and top downloaded projects get awards}

-gallery changes:
-{description edits:
-the description will be on the top of the projects and can now use HTML and BBcode} Yes... But NOT image tags, because n00bs could show bad pictures.
-{new filters for gallery:
-listed people can only add projects Yep. Good idea.
-projects with these tags can be added} I can just go add the tag, can't I?

-other updates:
-{clans/guilds:
-you can now form a clan or guild [whichever name is chosen]
-clans will have a description area that allows HTML and BBcode
-they will also have a logo
-there will be requirements for users to join:
+minimum level [and maximum is optional]
As I said before, no.

+minimum average user rating
-users can send and request to join the clan/guild
-there may be a max number of users who can join
-clans/guilds also have the option to have the home page of the clan/guild hidden to users who have not joined}

-scratch website theme updates:
-{working on the images for the update!}-

Some guy said it could discourage kids (Scratch's age range is mostly people under 13) when they get low ratings. And as I said, trolls could randomly give low ratings. On Newgrounds it doesn't matter since mostly grown-ups visit the site.

-If kids get discouraged and leave, then that shows they aren't fit to be a programmer. It requires perseverance and dedication. Furthermore, it helps your character.

-Change it it one vote per active account/IP or have requirements for voting. Also, each person would have a different voting power.

These is no such thing as "not being fit to be a programmer".
I was a total n00b to programming when I found this place.

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Most people on this site are not interested in serious programming. It is just a fun thing to try. Scratch really isn't about serious programming at all, its just a tool to get people involved who would normally not care for programming. Scratch the program is a good learning tool but is not as good a tool for professional development and the atmosphere of the website reflects that.

Newgrounds is made for a different purpose, to entertain. If a flash does not entertain then it deserves to be taken off to tell programmers to do better. That is more in line with zelda123's way of thinking.
