You could always try a remake of some 'popular'-but-old game, such as Bejeweled, Solitaire, PacMan, MineSweeper: those are commonly made as an introductory but can actually be harder than expected for some.
Otherwise, try making a maze or 'escape-the-___' game: easy and relatively fast to make.
