Minecraft. The first word that comes into my head when I think of Minecraft is 'phenomenon'. Minecraft is absolutely massive these days and it's pop culture fanbase is colossal. In short, Minecraft is just one massive meme.
Minecraft was created in 2009 by Markus 'Notch' Persson before it was even in Beta.
The game is a sandbox game with a main focus on mining and crafting, hence the name.
You are stranded on an island with pretty much nothing. You need to make shelter before it gets dark and the monsters come out.
You have to find materials to make swords and axes for defending yourself but also other blocks to build shelter.
Minecraft throws you straight in the deep end with no guidance whatsoever.
No tutorial. No map. No help.
This is when the Minecraft Wiki will become your best mate. You'll be always searching how to make diamond swords and golden axes.
There is also a creative mode where you're given all the items in unlimited quantity to make whatever you want.
---VERDICT---
6.5/10
While there's great imagination and concept behind this game it's sorely lacking any story whatsoever and it all really felt all a bit pointless. While building a scale replica of Chuck Norris' toilet paper factory may be fun for a few hours you probably won't get a lot put of this game. Mind you, there are some people who treat this game like their religion.

...it's a sandbox game. There's not supposed to be a story.

Nice review.
And guys, it's an opinion. Not everyone likes this sort of game.

"...lacking story..."
Intended. It makes it fun to many people.
"...no help..."
Again, intended. You're supposed to figure things out yourself.
"...pointless..."
I quoted that word here. Do I NEED to say that it's intended?
You forget to take into account that everything you listed as a con is intended in a sandbox game.
Just as chefs need to learn to like a lot of foods before making them, you need to learn to like many types of games BEFORE reviewing them.
Pointless?
What sandbox game isn't? ALL games are pointless, you simply feel good that you made something unnecessarily complex and awesome. Games were meant to have fun with, not complete 100%. It's fun to complete them 100%, but you can have fun other ways.
No help?
This isn't zelda, there isn't a little fairy or tutorial level for everything.
Lacking story?
AGAIN. NOT FREAKING ZELDA. GO KILL AN ENDER DRAGON IF YOU WANT STORY.

He left Wurm and Rolf in the dust
Notch actually got most the ideas from Wurm, and simplified them and made it much quicker.
Yes, there's no story, and the point of the game is to mine and craft, it's called sandbox, it's what my cat poops in.

Also, I want to add, there's no story written by any game developer who works for Mojang.
So, I could make a storyline using signs and chests and as of 1.2, spawn eggs in dispensers. This means I can make my own little story and put it online for other people to play, without it meshing into the pre-existing storyline (which doesn't exist, which is good).

Look, I'm not a fan of MC because it's a meme(WHICH IT'S NOT)! I play it because I actually find it FUN.

A lot of people have already said this, but sandbox games don't ever have plots. In fact, that is the reason they are called sandbox games: you can do whatever you want! If you want a storyline in MC, get an adventure map, like CUBE Inc.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but Minecraft and every other sandbox game in existance intentionally lack a plot/storyline. Don't say it is boring for a reason that is intended by the developer (Mojang in the case of MC).

Well, skyrim has a story... But it isn't truly a sandbox game. Open world moreof.

Yes, you do.
ALL the aboveground land is on islands, though sometimes the islands are very, VERY big.

Doesn't that technically make it a continent?
Anyway, I'll try and redirect interest to my post for a second through this one.

I think Minecraft is more for creative purposes. If you want a game with a set plot, find another game. Minecraft is like a box of infinite LEGOs, but with a little more structure.

I have Minecraft. Fun game. I got the same username on their as here. I don't go on much though.

There is no plot.
You MAKE the plot.

If you have plenty of gold, it is reasonable for the speed.
