Discuss hardcore and post-hardcore here. What are your favorite bands in those genres, if you like this kind of music.
Stuff I really like is At the Drive-In, Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, Dead Kennedys, Embrace, Converge, Courtships, Thrice, Thursday, Orchid, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Glassjaw, to name a few.
And no, bands like My Chemical Romance (save their first album), Black Veil Brides, Alesena, Atreyu, Escape the Fate, Attack Attack!, etc. Those are either alternative, pop rock, or boy band metal. Mentioning these groups will result in a time-out.

I like Fugazi's first album and various nintendocore bands like Minibosses and Crystal Castles.

How could I forget Fugazi?
Who knows, man

*Ahem* BVB are post-hardcore. Most of their stuff, anyway.

According to Wikipedia, they're post-hardcore, glam metal, metalcore, and alternative rock.

Oh noes. I've seen enough topics go up in flames for not to discuss music genres with Sanddude.
Was MCR's first album I gave you my bullets?

Yes.

The emo topic was really the only one that got intense, and it wasn't really a flamewar, per se.
And yes, I am referring to Bullets. That album had a lot of stuff that could be classified as post-hardcore. The style of 3 Cheers and later seemed to go more into an alternative/pop-punk band, instead of a post-hardcore/alternative band.

I remember when he didn't even accept varying opinions.
Good times.

No, they're just generic hard rock.
It's nothing like this, which is REAL post-hardcore. Lumping BVB in with that is just insulting.
*Types in "Black Veil Brides post-hardcore" in Google*. Oh look, 406,000 results! Add to that the fact that last.fm and Wikipedia both say that they're post-hardcore, and I think it's fair to say that they are post-hardcore.

So if people on the Internet say something it's automatically true!

I didn't say that. I said that if two massive websites say one thing, and one person on some forums says another thing, then who's more likely to be correct? Plus, I'm not just going by what those sites say. I already knew they were post-hardcore, I was just using those websites to back me up.

And what exactly do you mean by "time out"?...

Yes, Wikipedia and Last.fm said that. Because they are CONSIDERED post-hardcore by many. That doesn't necessarily mean they are.
And I'm not the only person who actually knows about post-hardcore.

Those are pretty reliable sources, because they're based on averages of publications & reviews in music magazines, music blogs, and other things of the sort; and community votes respectively.

He seems to be doing it again.
It's not like genres have an amazingly fine line either, I'm guessing there is some leeway.

Of course there is, beings as music genres are based on the average-popular opinions. And just because one persons opinion doesn't match another persons opinion doesn't make them any less wrong. It just makes them different.

Genres aren't set in stone, they're defined by people and people have differing opinions but nobody is 'wrong'.

Exactly.
It may have come across as me saying "sanddude is wrong" but it was more that genre is based on opinion.

No, it's not. They should not believe me because I said so. They should believe me because they know how post-hardcore originated, what it means, and how Black Veil Brides sounds nothing bands like At the Drive-In, Texas is the Reason, Glassjaw, etc.

It doesn't matter how you think they sound like. People can make their own decisions of genres and you have no right to exclude someone based on how they classify music. While they may not exactly have the same origins, they may very well mix a variety of influences into their music, including some post-hardcore. I don't know, because I haven't heard them and am not experienced with post-hardcore, but you can't just exclude people like that. You've actually had this argument with RedRocker before several times in Misc. One might think you're actually trying to argue about it, to prove that you're right and he/she (dorn it why can I never remember RR's gender) is wrong.

Fair enough. You have a good point.
However, I created this topic to discuss bands more along the lines of the ones I mentioned, instead of bands of the BVB type. So let's agree to disagree, and discuss...
The Dillinger Escape Plan!
