Better moderation.

This has been bugging me for a while now, but I really think the site needs better moderation. The auto-filter doesn't post comments that are perfectly fine. And when you flag a project for a legitimate reason, a day later, a moderator tells you that you weren't flagging properly. For example, I flagged a project that was a copy of my own project, and the copier got away scot-free, and a moderator told me that I wasn't doing good flagging.

Well, I really hate the moderation on this site. There are no people under the age of 10 that go on this website. [removed by moderator - please don't be insulting].

Re: Better moderation.

Well, insulting the Scratch team won't help.

And part of Scratch is remixing, the reason it wasn't taken down was because you're allowed to remix anything and credit is automatically given. And Scratch is made for all ages, it's made to inspire young people to create their own games, if their parents found out it was just full of people insulting eachother and all remixed projects were taken down then they'd stop using the Scratch service.

A remix is when someone downloads the project and changes stuff.

Re: Better moderation.

Wait, I think I just got the irony.

This is about the lack of moderation, but seeming it has an insult directed at the mod team they will close this thread proving that the moderation is good enough.

Hmph enjoy your fall - I get a lovely spring... without pans of new leaves.

This and the fact that Scratch isn't made to be taken seriously in the field of programming, you just learn basics from it then move on, it's like having a non-moderated, swear all you want tellytubbies forum, it makes no sense to cut out the target audience.

There's loads of people on here under 10; sportsdude6 is just 8.

I agree - the auto-filter on the main site catches way too many things that it shouldn't.  There have been some improvements made to it - but there is still work to be done.

There's a difference between a copy and a remix.  The Scratch site encourages remixing, since it helps spread good ideas and makes learning the language easier.  However, if a project is remixed, it has to be changed in some way and credit has to be given, either by the automatic link ("based on so_and_so's project") or somewhere else (project notes, in the project itself, etc).  If you disagree with whether a project is a copy or a remix (as judged by our moderators), use the Contact Us button to talk directly to the Scratch Team - they will be happy to listen to your concerns.

Scratch is an all-ages site so that it will be appealing to parents, teachers and folks of all ages.  However, we recognize that by placing restrictions on language and project content, we may be limiting how some people want to express themselves.  The Scratch website source code is available for free if you would like to build a site more suitable to your specific desires.  Just don't use the name "Scratch" in it (so it doesn't confuse people) - and give credit.

Yeah...that's really not the way we would like to see that handled, as it could get you in trouble for fighting.  Instead, start with a friendly comment pointing out that exact copies are not allowed.  If that gets ignored, then just use the Flag as Inappropriate button and mention that it is a copy.  The Scratch Team will then look into the situation.

"Talk directly to the scratch team"

Aka, talk to Amos Blanton (Lightnin).
Not the scratch team, but never mind.

Most of the time it's Amos.  Sometimes it's me, or another member  And a lot of times what you send to the team gets discussed by several other people, if it raises issues that may require a change in how we do things  smile
