Make a redstone machine like my furnace detector. If you put something in the fuel slot and smelt slot an alarm will go off, press the disarm button and it'll go off again when it's done.

I remember having a complex series of redstone, water, a catapult, etc. that sent blocks from a wall a fair amount away that breaks onto a catapult using aqueous craft, redstone, etc. onto a catapult where the wall was rebuilt more or less nicely.
