Chatting with friends.

We should really be able to chat with our friends. Makes it easier than mass commenting.

BUT- as I know you guys are probably frowning on this before I'm even done...

In comes the simple filter. With a filter, moderators wouldn't have a lot of work to deal with, aside from cleaning up bad stuff the filter didn't get rid of and updating the filter. It would work for the forums, too.

But, as I know you, you'll just close this with some "younger Scratchers blah blah blah" comment.

Now, really, think about it. How many people use Scratch nowadays that are under the age of 10?

Re: Chatting with friends.

Plenty of people under 10 use Scratch. Chats are hard to moderate and even if they don't curse, users can say rather rude things.

A fair amount. Scratch is usually targeted for around 5 - 8 year olds (although it is intended as jumping platform for programming in general).

Even with a filter, there are users who seem to try and cheat them, not to mention that the lack of bad words doesn't mean that it's impossible to post bad content.

Why do we need to communicate? Scratch is expressing your creativity through projects. Chatting would defeat the purpose, which definitely would not help. And there are a fair amount of people under the age of 10 here, that didn't really help your cause. All in all, it wouldn't help, and it's not needed.

you can always exchange skype usernames with a friend on scratch. I talk with some of my friends on skype very often.

Re: Chatting with friends.

Yeah, there are words that the ST forgot to put in the filter, people can not include the "C" or whatever and pass the filter, etc.

Plus, filters don't mean people won't get hurt (on the inside).
