Loading image files as sprites

Hello to everyone, this is my first post since I just found out about the existense of this amazing program.

- In getting started I would like to know what image files extensions are supported.
- When I draw something in a painting program - lets say just a circle - how do I get only that circle as beeing a sprite instead of the rest of the square image?

Re: Loading image files as sprites

Hi ffve!

As far as image files go, JPEG, gif, bmp, and png files can be imported into scratch as sprites. (There may be some other supported file types that I don't know about.)

For drawing something like a circle, try to make the background transparent (I know that this works in photoshop, but may not work in paint or some others). If this doesn' work, try importing the whole image as a sprite, and, with the scratch paint editor, dump the transparent over the white space.

I hope this helped!

paint doesn't support transparent images, try using Paint.net. That's the program i use.

Transparent is the gray/white alternating squares by the way.  smile

Re: Loading image files as sprites

You can load multiple images at once by drag-n-dropping an animated gif into Scratch but you will have to go back and cut out all the transparent parts as they become opaque during translation  smile

Re: Loading image files as sprites

Import your (opaque) image into Scratch, then open it in Scratch's paint editor.
Select transparency in the colour area.
Fill in the area which you wish to be transparent with the fill tool.
