Re: Links to Member-created Websites

One question:
I want to make a forum for my minecraft server. The thing is, while I understand the three-month-rule on some cases, I don't see the entire point in it. I would use some online forum maker thing, (if there is a recommended one, please tell me) so the system would probably be secured. Basically, what I am trying to say is that I don't see the point of my forum sitting empty for three months with no users.

I think the point is, so it's more organized and is still active.

Hmmm.  But the oldest post on it is only Jan 2nd?  The three month rule is there so that you can get some experience running your forum before you "go public" with it.  Also, have you read LS97's security suggestions?  Lot's of helpful hints...

The point is, if you're going to advertise it on the Scratch forums, you have to be sure that you're ready for the general public.  So, before you "go live", practice with a few of your friends...have them "exercise" your site a bit.  See if you can figure out how to remove (or prevent) inappropriate material.  Learn how to block and unblock people - that sort of thing.

SpaceManMike wrote:

Does it meet the criteria for a simple site (see first post)?  If so, then it does not need to be checked, nor does it require approval before advertising it.  However, if it has a forum, it does need approval.

Jan 2nd.
Jan 22nd.
20 days.
20 days = ~1 month.
I guess I should of noticed that.
Anyway, I read LS97's suggestions, and trust me, I have experience of running a forum before this. I had experience of that for ~3 weeks.
7x3=21.
21 days = ~1 month and a day.
2 months and a day of experience.
(plus 1 day of running it before releasing it to Daroach via Minecraft)
2 months 2 days.
That means 18 days left until 3 months.
18 days isn't a long time.
Thus, it IS about to hit 3 months.

Average number of days in a month = 365 / 12 = 30.4 days
21 days = 21/30.4 = 0.69 months
3 months = 3 * 30.4 = 91 days, or 70 days still to go.

If it is only regulations for the forums, can I advertise it on my server but not on the forums? Or would that be illegal as well or would it be a "we have no control" thing?

How do you figure?  The requirement is three months...you're the admin but your account only dates back a month. I'm afraid I'm not seeing anything that indicates that the site has been up for the required period.

veggieman001 wrote:

After some discussion this morning, we've decided that having forum posts not visible to the non-logged in public makes it hard to insure that content guidelines are being followed, so we've added an additional requirement that posts must be visible.  I hope that doesn't cause you too much difficulty?

Also, there was a questionable GIF image in the signature of a user named "___" or similar.  Something you might want to look in to.

No problem. I'll deal with that. The reason I added that was to prevent spam, actually.

@steve: For example, if your forum started on December 19, one month would be Jan 19, two would be Feb 19, and three would be March 19

I thought that was actually a good idea to have so that you have to make an account to view it.

But yeah, that gif was...eh...disturbing.
