Could someone tell me how to make a simple Minecraft server?

I've tried looking it up, but all of them are tutorials with things I don't want in my server or they just don't work -.-" All I want is a plain server that I can play with my friends. I don't need much else, and I'll look up tutorials for that if I need to. So, maybe step-by-step instructions or really simple terms?
