Aren't we going to have a new logo or anything for the day?

There's a cache issue with changing the logo. It's why it's hard to update it, even for things like a SOPA protest or to celebrate a holiday. Not to mention, the message was mind of sent last notice, so there wasn't enough time to do more.

Dull, definitely, but better than nothing.

At least it's not as dull as on dA. They just have some tiny stamps (which is useless for people who are non-paying members), an article, and a little black banner thingie.

I honestly think that the protest here was pretty weak.

Fist of all, the only big announcement against SOPA/PIPA is on the forums. That's not really affective. It should be on the main page too.

You should've done something similar to the hurricane page, but with a button to go to the actual site (just so that little kiddies don't dry).

And seriously? Only featured has projects? (Well, To Remixed has one, so people were aware beforehand) You should've made everything on the home page redirect you to an official SOPA/PIPA project which builds upon the hurricane page-style message.

Also, maybe you should put a message telling children to contact their local senator to say "NO" to SOPA/PIPA.

It honestly feels like the ST just did this out of mass suggestion and didn't really want to do it.

(PS: I've also changed my signature, something I practically never do)

There is a message on the front page. Not to mention the featured projects are all anti-SOPA ones.

And the message on the front page does have a link to the opposition of SOPA and PIPA now.

Actually, I think the issue was that this was kind of last minute (the ST was even sending messages to each other this morning trying to figure out which anti-SOPA site to link to on the front page); there wasn't really much time to code a redirect page over the weekend (the standard one sponsored by groups such as sopastrike didn't allow a redirect, so that wasn't practical to use), perhaps the situation would have changed if there was some more ample notice beforehand (maybe about two or three weeks ahead of the protest date instead. It was kind like that time on April Fool's Day (the one two years ago) when the only joke was on the forums (you know, the one where all posts cost $0.99, but that was it), but the following April Fools the jokes were thought of beforehand so they were a bit more grand.

I think it's basically a law that will cause all websites with copyrighted material to be blocked. I think.

Re: SOPA/PIPA Official Topic

The Stop Online Piracy Act is a bill that will allow companies to sue websites with only the slightest bit of copyrighted content (like a Scratch profile picture) for damages and get the website taken down. PIPA, the Protect Intellectual Property Act, is the Senate counterpart of the House bill.

The good ol' land of semi-liberty, the USA.

The US, but any US based sites can be taken down (think Twitter, Facebook, Google, Scratch, etc.) and then they'll be gone for everyone

Re: SOPA/PIPA Official Topic

Moderator note:  Originally a separate topic labeled "S.O.P.A... do you agree?"

Because I don't.  You guys, S.O.P.A. was proposed by congress to stop piracy on the internet.

But if it passes, we're going to lose all of our freedom.  Our scratch projects will be removed if they don't meet the standards.  What are the standards?  I'm talking about all of your warriors projects, those Mario games you play, the fanart you drew for your favorite manga character.

If S.O.P.A. passes, all of this will be gone.  All of this will be against the law.

Everything copywrited will be removed.  And that isn't it.  Songs that you got from other people's scratch projects?  These songs will be gone too.

The internet won't have any freedom.  In an attempt to stop pirates, our freedom is being taken away.  Laws like this are also in China and Korea.

You may have noticed that Wikipedia shut down for 24 hours.  They are protesting.  The scratch team is considering shutting down to protest, too.  So, you guys, this is serious.

We can't let this pass.  So protest, everyone!  Make a project, remix a project, do anything!

-E is for Epic
