Re: Creative Writing

Whenever I try to write, I usually accidentally make it kind of flat and emotionless so it doesn't come off as stupid or overreaching
This, I believe, is pretty much the best paragraph in my 'book' so far. It's really sarcastic, though.

But, of course, none of them knew how to do this. They had no experience with surviving somewhere alone. Max and Fynn, having both passed English 6.3 on e-School, had read The Swiss Family Robinson, though this was small comfort. The Swiss Family Robinson was a large digital novel, and they had all been tested on it so thoroughly, drilled on it so constantly, that it lost its meaning; every paragraph attacked and ground down by the analysis of the interface so that its story was stripped bare, save for a few excellent vocabulary words.

Making fun of the way English tends to be taught?

Re: Creative Writing

I love creative writing. I've written a 40 page book (It'd probably be about 80 pages in a paperback size, though.) and I'm trying to get it published.  big_smile

I don't think the fact that someone smokes in it is enough to disallow it.

I once wrote a short story out of boredom that I submitted for an English assignment because I had nothing else.  That being said, I submitted it without actually reading it, as I was writing without reading it.

My teacher handed it back and said it was really good, so I reread it.  It was really depressing... about a guy locked in a room for eternity and slowly going mad.

Can I haz story? lulz

Writing's my favorite school subject! (My second favorite, almost tied, is math, but that doesn't prove anything...)

Re: Creative Writing

I like creative writing, but I tend to only do it for school assignments. I used to write a lot for fun (back in elementary school and early mid school) and I used to want to be a writer when I grew up, but then I discovered math.  tongue  Don't get me wrong, I still like reading and writing, but I prefer math most of the time.

That's not Creative Writing.  neutral

That is, if you have the truth in it.

Re: Creative Writing

I'm writing a story about this virtual reality shooter-like action game that everyone plays to escape thehorrors of the world around them (you know, pollution, the impending nuclear war, things like that), and this group of hackers (or some sort of virus or bug, I can't decide) makes it where people can't leave and if they die in-game they just die, then start klling all of them taking advantage of the game's huge arsenal of readily-available weapons, and some people team up and try to stop them.

And in another one, I'm writing about miners that get trapped in the mine by an earthquake and see shadowy monsters stalking them, and in the end (SPOILER ALERT) they'll PROBABLY (unless I can come up with something better) turn out to be the personification of all the evil in each miner, with each one tageting the miner it's the personification of thier bad side.

A certain movie comes to mind.  A certain 1980s movie.  I can't remember the name.  Gah!
