This is the official discussion on anything about Mathematics

I know there is already discussion that already “official” but I just really like math and language arts so I thought I’d make a new thread about math THAT IS NOT CLOSED (I put it in bold letters so others may know I am emphasizing it to make a big deal of it) unlike many other threads.
You are welcome to talk about anything related to Mathematics.

P.S. I am only a kid.

In my school we are seeing who will get to go to the Math Masters of Minnesota tournament. You see math masters are for grades 5-6 and last year when i was in 5th grade i didn't go to the tournament since i did HORRIBLE on the test to see who gets to go the tournament. This year on the practice problems we do now i think the questions are getting easier now 'cause back then the wording of the questions were hard to understand. Now i can easily understand them. I really hope i can get into the tournament this year so i can be on my friends team. If i don't get in it this year, I will be a disgrace to all indians (i guess not that much...).

Lol that is EXACTLY why I love math! There is nothing to interpret, it is either right or wrong. That brings me to why I love computers, it is even more concrete, everything is LITTERALLY one or zero. Two options, choose one.

unlike writing, you cant just follow a formula and get it right, you have to be creative(unlike me) instead of just plugging it in

To me, math is boring hmm

I'm good at it, I just find nothing interesting about it. It's just a bunch of numbers to me. No colorful concepts or discussion.

I'm currently learning parallel and perpendicular line equations.

A line with an equation of y= 7x + 19, and a parallel point of (5,7)

Find the Slope

7

Turn into point slope form.

y-y(coord)=m(x-x(coord))

y - 7 = 7 ( x - 5 )

Turn into slope intercept form

Distribute the slope into the x in order to isolate y.

y - 7 = 7(x) - 7(5)

Multiply

y - 7 = 7x - 35

Add seven to each side, like terms with like terms

y - 7 + 7 = 7x - 35 + 7

Add

-7 + 7 = 0

-35 + 7 = -28

y = 7x - 28

I took this contest for math once. I got a 96%... I was sad.

But it was like... 2 PM... so I was getting ready to go to sleep and my mind was half asleep...

Wait, it was not 2PM, that was my local time. it was 11 PM in Paris.

Today I was trying to teach my friend geometry. He didn't appreciate it tongue

I love doing math...I'm pretty bored in my math classes though...I'm in a class that's supposed to do half a year of pre-calc and then half a year of AP Statistics so it's supposed to be a pretty fast class but it feels so slow...

I made a program with 20+ Algebra/Geometry/Trig formulas into my Ti-84+ Silver Edition for the ACT.

And I hate math.

My maths class is just right - not too hard, but not too easy either.
(This is probably because we're in ability sets.)

Its not just slope tongue

I learned slope a while ago. This is with parallel lines. Still pretty easy though.

The problem with all my math classes since 7th grade is that they do nothing but try to reteach you what you learned last year...

Picture a tenth grade math teacher explaining to students that infinity is, and I quote, "like, really big, man."

I have only gotten a 100% on a math homework a few times. I usually get around 2-4 wrong. Also, I'm really mad we're learning from a math book about 3 years more intense from last year.

I heard that the 6th graders in my old school are learning from an 8th grader's book. .3.

The forumula for the area of a trapezoid:
A=(a+b)*h/2
am I right
that's just what I remember

I'm learning about area of a circle and stuff

skipped 2 years of the most advanced thing

regular: 3rd grade math -> 4th grade math -> 5th grade math -> Transition Math -> Algebra -> Geometry -> Advanced Algebra -> FS&T -> Pre-Calculus -> A.P. Calculus (Finished Senior year)
me: 3rd grade math -> 5th grade math -> Transition Math -> Algebra -> Geometry -> Advanced Algebra -> FS&T -> A.P. Calc (Finished Sophomore year)

In everything else, there's loads of right answers, but in maths there's only one; all other answers are wrong. For some reason, it really annoys me when there's different correct ways of doing stuff, so maths is perfect for me tongue
