Well, my 13th (Ugh. Teenager) birthday's coming up in a few months and I know what I really want for my birthday. An MC server host. My mom and dad can't pay too much for a good one, so can anybody recommend a good, cheap server host? Thanks a bunch!
BTW, I don't know if the host will affect this, but I want the server to have Bukkit.

It depends on how quickly and simply you want the server up. Like, if you just want an MC Server setup and all for you, then you can probably just search for MC hosting. If you are willing to go through some hard work, you can set up the server yourself, get your own plugins (bukkit), etc.
If I had the choice of getting a VPS/Dedicated Server (they are two separate things though), or MC Server, I would choose the VPS/Dedicated Server (probably Dedicated Server) and I would put my own MC Server on it (with any plugins I want), run a website with it, and probably Chat.PY server on it as well.
Depending on the work you are willing to put into it, you can do a lot more with an actual Server than a server only for hosting MC servers.

Ooh look, my topic!
Anyway, the only one that I've been able to get working is Shellmix, but apparently they have a ban on MC servers in their rules.
That's out of the free ones, of course.
You could use something like Amazon's EC2 cloud hosting, with a minecraft server guide here

This looks like a good idea, for a year at least.

You should just join an existing one, most newer servers die out very quickly and it's a waste of money, joining one which has already got itself started means you already have a community to help you. Also server hosting is very stressful at times and the more players which join the more weight you have to drag.

I think she's pretty convinced she wants to get one.

I am.
xP
But my dad said we may have to wait a few more months so we can plan it out. I need to get a list of hosts I'm thinking about by today so my dad can look a the host's sites.

Lol yeah, that's pretty much the story of my server... If you REALLY want a server, try to make something different from everything else, like I did be making a PvP server.

Hmm
OK I'll just search it
One day
Not on this computer
It can't handle my multi-tasking DD:

I enjoyed reading about cloud web server offers
Simple web server tasks handle thousands concurrent users per cpu,
whilst a minecraft server does only a few users per cpu.
Why do minecraft servers need so much computing power?

I've heard that Avante Hosting is pretty good.
If he says yes, that mychemicalromance dude hosts Scratchia, maybe he can do it for you?

Check for Minecraft Forums approved hosts.

I figured you were going to say something about hosting it yourself.
Anyway, HostLadder is the host I'm currently looking at; their lowest offer for Minecraft servers gives you half a GB of memory for only $9.95 a month! (But don't listen to their "recommendations" for player slots and plugins; I've had a lot more than what they put down using the same amount of RAM, and you can put however many of each on it anyway. ) The only problem is, it said "the credit card information you entered was declined" when I tried to order with my dad, but the support from HostLadder has been friendly so far. Maybe you'll have better luck...though they do offer payment through PayPal, and we only tried direct credit card payment.
