measurement help

earlier i asked how to make a non-cliched medieval england, now i have a question about my native american world. They need a measurement system. Should i use the metric system, or makw up my own. If i should create, it how do keep it simple?

If you want to be somewhat funny, measure in a way Indians probably would have: trees, sticks, branches, etc. If not, metric.  tongue

well the culture is similar to Aztecs, and the aztecs grew corn so i figured they would measure lengths in cornstalks. Now i need a unit(s) for weight, travel, and capacity.

But that's like that old metric unit that measured in arm lengths- they would all be different!
