In my school, if you punch somebody you get instantly suspended, joking or not.

That seems a bit harsh to me. Actually, extremely harsh. In my school, they don't tell you off at all for violence
In fact, there was a fight today, a real "bashing heads against walls" one, and I could swear the teacher noticed it, but just walked past! Although it was probably just my imagination, because I find it hard to believe a teacher could be that bad
Still though, when people fight as a joke, and teachers see, they don't get told off, they just get told to do it on the field and not on the playground
Which is precisely the reason I hate school.

Wow. That's really bad. It's actually so bad that I don't believe it (Not that you're a liar, or anything )
I actually don't mind the instantly-get-suspended rule that my school has; I'd rather have somebody jokingly punch somebody else and get suspended than having them not get suspended for punching someone on purpose.

No big deal, really
Just punch them in the face, tie their hands, and throw them off a cliff.

Yeah, I see your point, but punching people is most people's ideas of fun. Not that I think it's fun, but it seems everyone else does
It's just a bit a laugh for the people that do it, so I can't see why they should get excluded

Ah, well. I don't really mind the rule, because I don't go around punching people for fun. Even when they deserve it, I feel guilty

There was a big fight in our school. I wasn't involved in it, of course.
Our head teacher called the first emergency assembly ever because of it.
Generally, we don't fight.
