Can't import video

I am trying to import a digital video to be used as the background or as a sprite. I have tried both the Quicktime and mp4 file formats without any luck. Is there a secret decoder ring for this?

Re: Can't import video

Importing video is not supported in Scratch yet.

However, from what you describe, it seems that you want to have a video of something that loops, such as water, playing on the stage. What I would do is go to a video editing tool and extract 10 or 20 representative frames and export them into JPG. Then, import them in Scratch as background costumes and create a forever loop where you just keep showing the next background over and over.

Re: Can't import video

It seems unlikely to me that scratch will allow importing videos any time soon---the idea is to get you to create your own movies, not play other people's.

Re: Can't import video

You can always convert the video into a gif file and drag that into scratch!

Do you make a new sprite? If you do, then make a sprite and then import your video file and tadaa! You have a video.  big_smile

Wow, an über-bump!

Anyways, I know there are certain converters you can use... Doing a simple Google search ought to yield some good results; perhaps you should try that?

Re: Can't import video

Yeah use the GIF method or...

just animate still frames to make a smooth image like:
[blocks]
<when green flag clicked>
<repeat( 5
<next costume>
<end>
<say[ haider ]for( 2 )secs>
<set size to( 6 )%>
<stop script>
[/blocks]

I believe he was on the original scratch team.

I believe that this topic has outlived its usefulness. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this topic has a 3-year necropost.
