I've never been to newgrounds in the past, and I just wandered to newgrounds today to try and figure out what you're trying to explain. I've got to say, the site is huge and I have no idea where to find a reference to what you're trying to explain.
When you say "voting", do you mean something like contests, in which anyone can vote on their favorite projects? Or are you referring to something like a poll option in the forums?

I don't think the voting idea would work. There's a lot of people who don't like simple projects, so they'd rate every one they saw as low as possible, and a lot of projects would get "blammed" (removed). Then a lot more people quit. Newgrounds is more for adults, so it doesn't matter as much.

So that's what the newgrounds's voting system is?
@MrFunky: That voting system isn't going to work here, especially considering the diversity in age, as well as the level expertise use in SCRATCH among different users. It also can be an opening for cyber-bullying and discouragement (projects by certain users being incessantly rated as low based on the user, not the project itself).
Directed at big-bang in later post: What is wrong with using the '@' symbol? It's almost universally known that '@' is an equivalent for the word 'at'.

Exactly... The comments section is enough for me. Hey, at least you can delete mean comments.

Newsgrounds won't be very... you know to 8 year olds and all. Unless people know how to take in the bad aswell as the good, the rating system won't be a good idea. How about pms....

Scratch ain't Twitter, so it drives me nuts when people use the @ sign like it actually does anything. But anyway, newgrounds sounds like it's more for the "l33t" people who are great programmers, and the last thing Scratch wants to be is hostile to new users with little/no experience.

ok judging by this whole topic I'll set up a whole list of detailed suggestions, basically I likey the idea too!
How was this topic a good suggestion? A lot of people here said they didn't want SCRATCH website to be like newgrounds or said it wouldn't work (only dec123 was in support of it), and I don't think you would like it if your project were to be removed simply because people didn't like it and everyone voted poorly against it.

this leads back to a suggestion i made a long time ago, a seconds site which follows along with the blamming and rating system. this site could only be open to users who have gotten premision somehow (mabye judge by the avrage love it per project?)

There are some parts of newgrounds that I think would go very well on scratch.
Here is my NG page http://archmage-flash.newgrounds.com/
Newgrounds has sperate sections on the frontpage for art animations, collections and music as well as developer shoutouts. It takes the best of what it has and organises it into nice groups so you can find what you are looking for. Your newgrounds user page also has a shoutout area which is a nice way to tell people whats up with you.
Those are the things from NG I think would work well with this site. The rating system however, would work horribly on this site. This is because scratch is meant for education and expression, and newgrouds is meant for entertainment. To get rid of content that does not entertain they go through a trail phase in the portal http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/ . If they don't get a score higher than 1.5 in 2-3 hours the content is deleted.

Voting? You mean like, 1-5? I don't think that would be good because new scratchers might be offended if their projects are rated low. Maybe there should be an option whether you can choose if people can rate or not.

maybe dividing the front page, have a game, art, animation, gallery, music, simulation, story, and random.

Cheedar Girl, it's almost like voting how good the project is from 1 to 5, except Newgrounds use words. Like below the project notes. D you understand a bit more now?

Thats Perfect, choosing if voting is on in your project. That would be good, or if you was offended, you could take voting off that project, just like comments!

Actually, I kind of figured it out the minute I read post #3 a long time ago (see post#4).
But you provide a clearer idea of how the system works.

Scratch wouldn't have voting, would they? It just doesn't fit... and rating from 1-5 stars have already been resolved with a no. Section 7. Suggestions that have been resolved already
