How would that help? It'd just be full of rants on why we shouldn't've wiped it and rants on the rants.

COMPLETE NO-NO.
You do realize that Misc. has merely met a low point? People like you whining about how horrible things are right now isn't going to make this place any better. So get off your bottoms and help out some.

I certainly won't argue the point that the Miscellaneous forum seems to eat up a lot of time and effort
But it does provide positive benefits to the Scratch community that have mostly been hit on in the above posts,
1) It provides a space where Scratchers can better get to know one another, form friendships and explore interests outside of Scratch.
2) It gives us a place to put the topics that don't relate to Scratch so that the rest of the forums don't get too off-topic.
Yes, there are disagreements and spam and trolls - they seem to be attracted to the open-topic environment. And perhaps more guidelines and moderators are needed, to make sure that this forum remains a friendly and welcoming space. We are continually exploring and modifying the way the space is defined. It has changed many times and will, no doubt, continue to change.
We do seem to go through these introspective cycles on a fairly regular basis though. And they are important as good suggestions sometimes come out of them. Here's a few topics from the past that you might recognize (I put in the search terms "delete misc"):
We have gone mad.
I feel something is missing today from the old days...what is it?
Hey, LET'S BE HAPPY FOR A CHANGE!
Lets Close Miscellaneous
By the way, there is a suggestion in the suggestions voting area as well

No-one seems to understand that this very discussion flares up like once every 3 months; and every time the ST decides that there are more positives han negatives regarding Misc.
It's here to stay, and if you don't like it then click the 'x' in the top-right corner or look in another section that interests you. ^^

If miscellaneous goes, I probably go. Not to be overdramatic, but I get irritated when I work hard on something and it gets 15 views. For the most part, I've stopped coding in scratch, with the exception of the Angry Birds challenge. Miscellaneous is the only real thing keeping me here and from me completely moving on to Visual Basic.

Trying to remove Misc. always fails. They'd rather remove our rights one by one then remove a filter thread.

Good idea, but then like in the past, they would spam Misc-like stuff on forums like Show and Tell, that's what they did before Misc. in it's first form was created.

In general, I think that Misc should be used for Miscellaneous topics, not "Everything Else". By that I mean that instead of useless topics, as an example "What did you get for Christmas?". It has absolutely nothing to do with Scratch or even the virtual world. It doesn't even have a huge meaning in the Real World. You got a new toy, how cool! is a little useless, as it doesn't provide any help or useful information ( except for stalkers ).
You just picked my thread of the first pages for your "useless topic" example. (I know it isn't really useful, but people like bragging about what they got. )
@topic: Many people have tried to get the ST to delete Misc. in the past. As you can tell, it never works. The ST and many Scratchers (including me) believe it has a use, and if you disagree, no one says you have to look at it.

Where would Minecraft go?

I hardly use Scratch anymore due to the limits, misc is the only thing which actually keeps me on this site. Misc is also the most used section for a reason, and MC servers need a place to go.

Perhaps this is the way to go. Starting new, with fresh guidelines, might just do what you want.
Personally, I believe that we should have Misc. I have become attached to all of you and I'd rather not lose communication. :'3
I believe that Misc. can also bring help to project making. It shows what the community currently likes and how they react to certain types of things.
Sometimes I like to make projects on things that the community enjoys.
So you might want to reconsider.

Dunno how we stand it, we post, and then are rewarded by getting banned for 60 seconds.

Seriously, no. This is the longest we've ever gone without an update, and people are getting bored. As I've said before, I think that once Scratch 2.0 comes out, Misc will get better.

Scratch is a community. In a community, if everyone talked about only what they needed to talk about, there wouldn't be a community. Did you ever notice that on other forums, they always have an equivalent to miscellaneous. Why?
Because miscellaneous is what makes the community a community.

Respectfuly, I disagree.
If people do not like Misc, they shouldn't visit it, as those of us who like Misc won't have to suffer because a few people don't want Misc here.
Although, I do agree it has become a place of spam and "I quit" topics.

So we need a better, more clear set of rules.

Nooo, without misc, my posts would be like 100, instead of 1400.

Yes, exactly.

Bad: Even though Miscellaneous would be gone, trolls aren't going to stop. They'll just start spamming and trolling on other parts of the forums.
I don't think so.
It's a lot easier to troll on "here's my fav band and why theyr da bom" than "can someone help me make a sonic game"

I don't think your post counts are the most important thing here.
