Gaming 2011

(I don't know if there is already a post for this. If so, I'll delete it straight away)

2011 has seen some of the best games (Deus Ex, Portal 2, Skyrim) and some games that deserve to be destroyed by oblivion (Mindjack, Duke Nukem Forever). So, Imnaskimg you, what game, in your opinion, deserves to be in every disc tray, and what game deserves sharp pointy things being inserted into its shell.

And, I don't want a flame war between the Battlefront, COD, and Halo fanboys/girls. Obviously, Halo is better, but let's keep all discussions of which game is better with well structured reasons, kk? (Do I actually have to say it? The contradiction is a JOKE, please, don't be so serious XD half the stuff I say are jokes)

Good example: Assassin's Creed Revelations is the best game of the year because of its layout. The hookblade makes it extremely easy, and fun, to explore the cities in the holy land. The combat is also very realistic, but is modified in just the right way for it to remain fun.

Bad example: Assassin's Creed revelations is the best game cuz it is.

Re: Gaming 2011

2011 has been the most amazing year for gamers world wide.

some of my favorite titles this year were Mario Kart 7, Battlefield 3 and Skyward Sword. (im getting it tomorrow for my birthday- but i know it's going to be awesome)

my favorite video game of this year though just has to be Portal 2. this Valve master piece is the single funnest game i have ever played before. it's hilarious, innovative and has a really light, though engaging, narrative.

Overgrowth is the best combat game I've seen so far, it's put an end to spamming a button.

Re: Gaming 2011

Portal 2 was the best game of 2011 in my opinion. It's a mind-bending puzzle game with puzzles well thought out, the plot makes sense, for people who played the first game. The graphics are amazing, even if you don't have an HD TV/monitor, like me. And the humour is humorous, even if you have to listen again to get it! It's a great break for shooters, because you're not mean't to kill anything! I don't mind how many Call of Duty games you throw at me, Portal 2 will remain in my heart.

lolwut? Hypocrite. You don't say what's better when you tell people not to flame.

Though I honestly would choose Battlefront over the others. Not because it's Star Wars, but because it isn't your generic modern "ZOMG PEW PEW EVERYTHING!!!!1!11!!" shooter. If Battlefront was out of the case, I'd choose Halo, because it has a single bit of originality. CoD is pure more pew pew less QQ, with the major sacrifice of heavy unoriginality.

In short, Duke Nukem Forever was a total disappointment.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd choose to say that I can't decide between three things: Mortal Kombat 9, Portal 2, and Skyrim.

And I don't need to explain why they're awesome. BUUUUUUUUUT I will just to follow the rules...

Mortal Kombat 9: A major improvement from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. It's 2.5D (finally) and is a nostalgia throwback that we all needed. It has extremely smooth controls and EXTREME brutality, great for an MK game. The story is well written and an excellent addition to the experience. And now...

Portal 2: ...for the game released on the same day. We needed this from the start, and it's what Portal 1 should've been. The original, while awesome in every way, was really just a mod of Half-Life 2 which, because of that, wasn't extremely well made. It would've been better if it used it's own iteration of the engine (which is why TF2 looked so polished in the Orange Box compared to others). Thankfully, they did that in Portal 2. It really helped. A lot. No questions asked.

(author's note: These games are actually linked in a way. Noob Saibot's Babality in MK9 is a reference to Portal. This is because Ed Boon realized that the games were going to be released simultaneously.)

Skyrim: Truly epic. It basically took everything in the series so far, mixed it with various Fallout 3 elements, and by Talos, it was epic. It added an element people have been asking about for who knows long: dragons. The epic fights engraved themselves into my memory, and I've memorized the entire Song of the Dragonborn just by hearing it over and over.

Re: Gaming 2011

I might as well state my own reasons:

Best game: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

If a huge world to explore, near limitless customisation, amazing graphics, believable enemy AL, and amazing combat isn't enough to prove this to be the best game of the year, maybe the amazing story line, a levelling system that evolves to your combat tactics, and guards saying 'I used to be an explorer, until I took an arrow to the knee', should make you change your mind. If that doesn't work, maybe the chance to be a werewolf or vampire in a waaaay better version of twilight will pull you over. It is simply amazing, and proof that long development doesn't mean a terrible game, unlike many other examples. Yeah Duke Nukem, I'm looking at you.

Worst game: Mindjack

A brilliant idea done terribly. If only taking over someones mind in a video game could be done at least semi-well. But no, instead of an Adele of a game we were expecting, we got a Rebecca Black; unpolished, terrible written, and hardly wanted in the industry. This shame-less GOW-style shooter has the worst AI EVER, and the sensitivity of the aiming is too high. This has ruined Square Enix's reputation.

Re: Gaming 2011

I didn't get many games but from the looks of it it was a good year

LoZ Skyward Sword, 3ds, Kinect, Okamiden(was alright) and the new Pokemon wasn't too bad either. Portal 2 is pretty fun, and a lot of news with the WiiU and such.
(excited for Silent Hill HD collection)

There are more referances between the Orange Box-based then you think. One I know of is there is a missing experiment from Portal 2, and you'll see a life-ring with the name of a boat in Half-Life 2. I forgot what it's called but it's an easter egg.
