If you record more than eight sounds on a sprite, then when you record the next one, you have to wait four seconds for it to start to actually record (it says its recording, but i can scream into the mic and get nothing.)

Holding a microphone to speakers will almost always result with some kind of noise within the recording. You can try holding the microphone farther away from the speakers and setting the speaker volume to full blast, or, if the sound you are trying to record already exists as a file (example: a song on a CD), use that file already.

R u sure your mics on and it could also be a lag issue.

YES MY MIC IS ON! Obviously i wouldnt be posting this problem if it wasn't on. As for lag, I tried it in a different file. Still didn't work.

Whoa, whoa, calm down.
If SCRATCH seems to prove difficult when recording sound, then easiest workaround is to not use SCRATCH as the recording interface; use another one instead. Chances are that you already have a program on your computer that already allows you to record sounds (someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe RealPlayer might be one of them), or if not, you can easily download one for free off the world wide web. Then simply import the sound manually when you open the SCRATCH interface.

Yeah, I use Audacity...it's a great audio editting program too. And the price is right (free!). Just google "Audacity download" and it should show up. Once you get your sound the way you want it, just export it as a WAV file and then import it into Scratch.
