Lava Lamps

I just bought a lava lamp at Target today, and I've been wondering, where did they come from?

Re: Lava Lamps

A lava lamp (or Astro lamp) is a decorative novelty item that contains blobs of coloured wax inside a glass vessel filled with clear liquid; the wax rises and falls as its density changes due to heating from a incandescent light bulb underneath the vessel. The appearance of the wax is suggestive of pāhoehoe lava, hence the name. The lamps are available in a variety of styles and colours of wax and liquid.

Anybody understand that? Me neither.

I shouldn't really be so proud of understanding how a lava lamp works, should I? ;-;

I love them, but usually they overheat. :L

Translate,,,

A lava lamp is filled with blobs of coloured wax inside a glass container, which is filled with clear liquitd. The wax rises and falls as the "density" changes due to heating, coming from the lamp below the glass container. The lamps have many different colours of both wax, and the clear liquid.
