http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Scratch_1.4_Download Start here, it's where you download the project scratch. From there you use the blocks on the left and put them in the area in the middle, which will control the sprites on the right.
Fiddle around with it for a while, ask forums for whatever help you need, and you'll start to get the hang of it
