The Music Industry Is Dead

It has come to my attention that recently or as a matter of fact, in the last 5 years or so there has been no good music, artists or bands come out of nowhere. All comedians aside (they'll always be great except for Adam Sandler) what we've seen recently in terms of music is a Canadian beaver who introduced a wave of terrible hair trends, a woman whose auto tune sounds so obvious that she's like the pop star equivalent of Stephen Hawking and most recently a girl who is concerned about nothing but the days of the week and I'm surprised she can actually read a calender! Pre-millennium there were the best bands ever. AC/DC, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Nirvana, The Beatles, Queen, The Runaways and Europe complete with singers who didn't need auto tune to make their voices sound good like Micheal Jackson and Freddie Mercury from an age where pop music was actually cool and when nobody had to put up with all this techno rubbish. Honestly, all I hear on people's iPods these days at school is Party Rock Anthem, Bounce and that Good Feeling song. I mean, doesnt anyone realise how auto tuned their voices are and how barely anyone these days can sing! As long as you've got the looks you can make a million bucks these days. D'you think Freddie Mercury came famous for his looks? No! He had a silly moustache and rediculois teeth but he could sing amazingly well and that's why he was appreciated as a musician. Not because he had a silly fringe or sounded like a robot or was overly concered about the days of the week. All I really want to say is that music is dead and unless someone comes along with some great new genre I don't think we'll be able to resurrect it.
I'm a big "Weird Al" Yankovic fan and I recently bought his latest CD (yes I still buy CDs but it's cheaper than iTunes alright) and found that some of his singing (not auto tuned) is better that the original artists that he's parodying. Consider that.

Since when is this a new thing? It has been dead since Justin Beaver came. D:

Re: The Music Industry Is Dead

Micheal Jackson sucked. Michael Jackson was so much better.

In all seriousness, modern music doesn't suck. People have been saying that for years, and it's never been true. Just go find some good music. Use legal sites like Spotify, Grooveshark, YouTube, etc. You just have to look and find it, and if you really do like music, then you'd do that.

I know it's my own fail but I always laugh when I spell Michael wrong!

Agreed. I am obsessed with Living On A Prayer!
Once me and my girlfriend played that song on Guitar Hero for more time that's probably healthy!

Re: The Music Industry Is Dead

Tastes change over the course of years and decades, because the younger generations will always want to change what their ancestors did.

Not all music these days is bad, it's just a matter of choosing it carefully. As long as you find the music that suits you, I don't what problem there is in letting beavers sing in a high pitch, or fergie sing the days of the week over and over.

I personally like modern pop, hip hop, rock, and rap. What I don't like is those death metal, heavy bass songs that disturb everyone around you in the bus home.

Auto tune is a great invention. It lets singers that aren't as perfect adjust their voice to meet higher standards. It just all gets better for my poor ears.

So please, listen to all the music you want from the 20th century, and if you're happy I'm happy. But don't come complaining about my rap unless it's too loud  wink

Personally, video game music is my favorite because there's no obnoxious singers.

I'm not saying MJ's my favourite singer but he still has a good voice albeit one that has a tendency to make weird noises at random points during songs

I think people shouldn't adjust themselves to meet what others want out of you.

A good voice doesn't make a good singer/musician.  It's the songs they write that do.

Hey, everyone's entitled to their own opinion and I'll respects yours and you do make a good point. I don't hate all modern music (I hate rap though) although I just think that with auto tune artists can just make a million with their looks.

You're right, I mean I love Nirvana and Smells Like Teen Spirit dosen't really have the best vocals but the guitar solos sound awesome.
