Updating a Project?

Moderator summary:
Question: How do I update an existing project on my profile without deleting all the comments and loveits?
Answer: Simply share the updated project with the same name under the same account and the project will automatically update itself.

Sorry for bothering all my fellow Scratchers, but I am wondering how do I update a project.

I've never used this option before and I'm wondering if it really exist. I heard someone talk about it in the forums. So if you have an answer, please help!

Oh, and SCRATCH ON!  smile

Re: Updating a Project?

You just Share the project again, making sure that the project name is exactly the same as what is already on the web.

Re: Updating a Project?

If you want both versions of your project online, Share the modified one with a slightly different name.

If you want to replace the old project with the new one, share it with an identical name.

If you have made significant changes you may want to do the former, as a project that is updated still has the same most loved/viewed count as the original so if it has been on the front page once, it will not get there again even if it is 10 times better.

Re: Updating a Project?

Something else I learned: project names often get truncated on the web site so that you only see the beginning of the name.  You might want to put the version number *first* rather than last in the name, so that you can see which one it is even when the name is shortened.

Hi Pa8donhou and welcome to Scratch!

To see responses to your posts in the forums, you have to check back and see if anybody has put anything.  I often use the "See Recent Posts" button to see what is new and look for responses.  To see your comments in Scratch, you click on the "You have X messages" text and it will bring you to a list of projects and Scratch users that have left you messages.  Click on the project name and it will bring you to the project so you can view the message.

A thread is a collection of posts on a single topic.  Some people just call them "topics".  Please try and follow the topic when you are posting...this topic, for instance, is called "Updating a Project"" so it should only have posts about updating a project.  If you can't find a topic that covers what you are interested in, use the "Post New Topic" button to make a new topic.

As far as your new games go, I'll go take a look!  Next time, try advertising them in the Show and Tell Forum, that's the right place for that kind of post.  Here's a tutorial to show how that is done  smile

Re: Updating a Project?

One last note about updating projects if the project on the website has something like an ' or " or ! or @, any special character remove that from the title or it will share as a new project.

I've taken a long hiatus, but I still visit sometimes. Give me some time to answer any messages you post on my projects!

Re: Updating a Project?

Just a tip: If there's a [1] at the end of the title, remember to get rid of it unless it's supposed to be there.

I fall: It's a tragedy. You fall: It's comedy.
Hmph enjoy your fall - I get a lovely spring... without pans of new leaves.

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>
