Fun Fact: Spongebob was going to be about two gay sea animals living together. Later, they scrapped the whole 'gay' thing and made it a kids' show. That's why in the first few episodes, it seems as if they are bf/bf.

Edit: Also, it wouldn't make sense for him to have a sexuality - see this (from the episode "Pressure". Also, to owetre, the creators stated that they did not think about his sexuality when they made him, because he is a sponge.
