DSi and Scratch Download?

I was really just wanting Scratch to be more portable so that I could work on projects on the go.  I don't have a laptop, but am trading in my DS Classic for the DSi.  It seems to have everything you'd need to create a great Scratch project.

Any thoughts about creating a downloadable version for the DSi or Scratch Mobile?

Thanks,
hillary

I agree. Scratch should be made portable.

unless the dsi internet has java you won't be able to. Oh and if you're talking something about a scratch channel. then you're comparing nintendo to scratch.

Re: DSi and Scratch Download?

Someone could rewrite Scratch on PAlib, but then you'd need a card supporting homebrew, such as the R4, which I have. I've heard homebrew makers are trying to hack the Micro SD port of the DSi so it supports homebrew as well.

Just wondering, where did you get your R4.  I've seen several online, but if you knew of a "top-rated" seller that would be some great information.

Hack?  I thought the Micro SD was designed so that you could load photos and music to your DSi...does it disallow apps?  Bummer.

You can load just about ANYTHING on a Micro SD, but the DSi doesn't support homebrew through this card. I got my R4 online, and I don't think there's another way to get it, sorry.

Scratch for Wii is possible (if ES gets released for wii) because ES, a wii OS, supports Squeak.

Otherwise, use Unity (but then you'll have to make it on a mac and it has to be licenced by Nintendo). Or try the Homebrew Channel...

Re: DSi and Scratch Download?

they should make a game card for DSi that has scratch.
u could make projects on it
u could download stuff if u have internet
u could transport projects from DSi to PC thru SD card.

it will make lots of money.

or they could make a free downloadable Scratch software for DSi.

Re: DSi and Scratch Download?

Yeah, I've always wanted to do that. I have this game I'm working on that's gotten several recommendations that I make it an Ipod touch app. I think it'd be cool if they had re-formatted versions of scratch avaliable for download in use for making games on the DS, Ipod, PSP, or even larger systems like the wii, gamecube or xbox. Of course, new blocks would need to be added or edited for each version, such as a "when tilted" block for the Ipod touch, or a "when a,b,x,y, button pressed" for the ds, or a "when cursor moved" block for the wii. This would take some work, but I think it'd be cool to be able to make semi-published games for other gaming systems.

Re: DSi and Scratch Download?

Scratch would work well on the DSi because you could have scripts on the top screen and the stage on the bottom screen, or switch. You could also use the touch screen to move blocks. You should be able to share it onto the normal Scratch website and download it onto a computer or DSi and download computer made projects to the DSi.

No. Stage on Top, and Editing on Bottom - because that's the tactile screen where you could grab the blocks. But then I think of the "When [WHATEVER] clicked" block... You should be able to switch screens, then.

Okay, allow me to clear things up:
Scratch itself DOES NOT operate off of Java. Nothing within Scratch has ANYTHING to do with Java. Viewing projects themselves, on the other hand, on the internet, DOES use Java. So unless Scratch has the resources to create a full game packet thingamajig... (it doesn't, seeing as it's completely volunteer-run and doing so would make Scratch be an expense)

I agree. Scratch should be made portable.

Scratch for Wii is possible (if ES gets released for wii) because ES, a wii OS, supports Squeak.

Otherwise, use Unity (but then you'll have to make it on a mac and it has to be licenced by Nintendo). Or try the Homebrew Channel...

Everybody is saying put scratch on homebrew, but do you think the scratch team wants to get involved  in illegal software? i don't. don't get me wrong, i have homebrew. and it would be cool if someone else made it.

Homebrew is most certainly not illegal.

Re: DSi and Scratch Download?

What is illegal, however, is downloading ROMs of original DS games to play them in a homebrew card.

BTW, the only PALib program I could find, with a purpose similar to that of a programming language, is Micro Lua, which lets you run Lua scripts, but NOT edit them. So we can be sure a DS-based programming language would somehow work.

Homebrew is most certainly not illegal.

If hombrew isn't illegal, than why is nintendo making such an effort to stop it? (ahem, 4.0 update.)
