"Unsupported WAV format:2" What does that mean?

I tried to import a WAV file into my program, and I get a message saying 'Unsupported WAV format:2'.

WAV apparently has multiple formats. My converter can covert to one of the following formats:
U-Law
A-Law
DMS
GSP
Microsoft ADPCM
Windows PCM

What is SCRATCH's preference when it comes to WAV files?

I asked John Malone, the head developer of Scatch, what sound formats were supported...and here is his reply:

Scratch only imports uncompressed (Windows PCM) WAV files.

You can use an audio editor such as Audacity (which is free) to
convert many sound file formats to uncompressed WAV.

So it looks like you want the PCM flavor.  Hope that helps!

No wonder why those fire alarm collection .wav files (the ones from dan.clavinet.com) were not working.
