"Accidentally" stumbling onto new bands

and realising they're awesome is awesome
realising they have a connection is better!!
anyway, I just "accidentally" stumbled upon Mumford and Sons upon the request of my friend
So now, my favorite bands off the top of my head
Neutral Milk Hotel
GROUPLOVE
Mumford and Sons
Vampire Weekend
Queen
The Gothic Archies

What are your favorite bands, and how did you find them?

Re: "Accidentally" stumbling onto new bands

Oh joy

of Montreal is one of my favorites right now, and I got into it because, well, I was at a record store and there was some funky looking album on vinyl for like ten bucks so I bought it and took it home with me. Turns out it was that cheap because it was an EP (Quite a lot shorter than a full album) not an album >:I

But yeah I ended up liking it and getting an actual album;; Though it was a double album and I was too lazy to listen to it for a while

Some others are uhhh

Counting Crows;; My mother gave me an album of theirs and said I'd like it. I did
Led Zeppelin;; I've been listening to them since my diaper days. Think I heard them first in my godfather's basement on one of those monstrous stereos that were hip in the 90s
Nirvana;; My dad was a fan. We listened to them in the car
Neutral Milk Hotel;; veggieman
Weezer;; veggieman
Beulah;; veggieman
Radiohead;; veggieman
The Magnetic Fields;; veggieman, though I'd known about it already
Reel Big Fish;; Ska-loving friend
9 Lazy 9;; Random thrift store album of theirs I ended up loving
Cage The Elephant;; Hip friend
Nevershoutnever;; my sister

I don't have any crazy stories about stumbling upon new music
That I remember, at least

Doubt it. I haven't even said anything about Weezer since, like, June.

Oh my God, you gotta love Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons.

Me stumbling onto new bands is mostly YouTube related.

Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.

Re: "Accidentally" stumbling onto new bands

My favourite band is Idlewild, and I found them because my dad brought went to a concert which loads of different bands were playing in, and brought back a compilation CD. I was listening to it, and then 'You Held The World In The Arms' came on. I've loved it ever since.
Most of the bands I like I discover by looking at the related videos to bands I already like on YouTube though  smile
