Sudden switch in scratch???(extremely urgent)

Ok, I'm using scratch for a book club. It started out fine, but after about a month it switched from Scratch version 1.3 to Scratch version 1.1. So, it could not be read! Now everybody is sad(and there is alot of them), because they can't open there projects from version 1.3 or version 1.1! The worst part of it: I'm the instructor(and I'm 9, but only scratch), so they keep asking about it like crazy. I also had to lie that scratch was adding updates, so they couldn't open up scratch projects properly. Please help scratch team! Also, sometimes scratch disappears from the computers completely! Second worst part: We're having a school assembly soon, and the book club lead(teacher) needs to open the file up to project it to the big screen in the gym/stage. Please help all, and scratch team.

But they need to be finished really really soon, and we only do it at Mon and Fri, that's leaves us really little time. And they are new to scratch, so they will need me to come help everybody, it'll just slow us down more to re-install. And that's not my question, my question is why did it happen?

Re: Sudden switch in scratch???(extremely urgent)

Many school computers have a standard set of programs that get reinstalled on all the computers at regular intervals to make sure that all the computers are running the same thing.  This is so that if the students (or the teachers) install something weird that breaks the computer, the computer can be restored to "normal" very easily.  This might be what is happening to you.  There might be a version of Scratch 1.1 on the standard image that gets pushed out to all the computers in the school.  So your 1.3 version is getting erased and replaced by the 1.1 version.  You need to get in touch with the person who maintains the standard computer image and get them to upgrade the image.  Or, find a way to have your computers not restamped with the standard image until your project is done.  I hope this helps!

Re: Sudden switch in scratch???(extremely urgent)

Another approach that might work for you, would be to install version 1.3 on a jump drive (small USB drive) and carry that to school when you want to work on your 1.3 projects.  Run the 1.3 version from the jump drive and open up your 1.3 project from within the 1.3 version.  I think that would work.

Don't just double-click on the scratch project to open it up though...that will start up the 1.1 version.  Start the 1.3 version first, from the jump drive, and then open your project from the Open button.

Or just get the zip version, it doesn't need to be installed

Okay...my first post basically said that I think the people who maintain your computers at your school are messing you up.  You should talk to them about your problem and they can fix it.

My second post said if you can't get them to fix it....there is a way to work around it, if your school computers can use those little flash drives that you plug into the little square USB ports.  It involves loading a version of 1.3 on a flash drive and running that version.
