Motion Blocks?

Hi, I'm making a project on Scratch and I just can't seem to figure out how to make and/or use motion blocks. When I click on the 'Stage' and then the 'Motion' tab, it specificaly said
'Stage Selected:
No Motion Blocks'
So my qeustion is, not only how do I make a 'Motion Block', but also, how do I apply it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, and you will also be thanked in the 'Notes' section of my game.

Sincerely,
flubberducky13

Re: Motion Blocks?

Motion blocks control the motion of sprites. Since the stage is a fixed background, it does not move. If you wish to use motion blocks, create a sprite and experiment from there.

Scratch on!  smile

The what were you looking for?

The STAGE is not the epicenter of all activity.  tongue

You'll need to find where you create a new "sprite" these are like the actors that you tell what to do. When you give them a motion block they will do that movement. The stage is just the background and thus, obviously, cannot perform a motion.
This should have more information along with links to other terms you may not understand: Motion Blocks

I'm glad to think that the community will always be kind and helpful, the language will always be a fun and easy way to be introduced into programming, the motto will always be: Imagine, Program, Share - Nomolos

Re: Motion Blocks?

Why should the stage be able to move? It’s the background. It shouldn’t move. THere are actually NO motion blocks when you select the stage, because the stage doesn’t move.

And flubberducky13, if my answer wasn't the one you are looking for, what kind of answer were you looking for?

Re: Motion Blocks?

A stage is a backround, and if there is no backround, there is no project, and so to keep the stage there, it shouldn't change, or move. Sprite, however, doesn't matter their location, and can move, change, basically do anything.

Re: Motion Blocks?

Ok, I want to add my couple cents worth, but have to admit to feeling a little threatened, due to the tone of this thread. Not all of us are backward and forward familiar with Scratch. I had the same thing happen that flubberducky mentioned. What I believe may have happened (I've since been able to figure this out) is that in following a tutorial, it has us draw a fish. It's just a drawing, it's not a sprite - but it never says that!! We are then directed (in the tutorial) to experiment with movement. Never once in the tutorial does it say to ADD A SPRITE. We are left thinking that the fish we drew, are the objects we are going to make move. Flubberducky, don't give up! Add a fish sprite and that's when the motion blocks will appear. I'm sorry some of those that posted were so cross with you - when they, themselves didn't understand. K- I'll sit back now and wait for my own personal backlash...

Re: Motion Blocks?

What you'll want to do is go to the Stage, and click Backgrounds. Right click on the background of your character, and choose Turn into new Sprite or something like that. Down in the Sprites Pane, you should see your sprite. Click it, then click Motion again. There should now be blocks there. Check out this Scratch Wiki article for more info on Motion blocks.  smile
