This is Notch's submission for Ludum Dare. Minicraft seems to be like a top down version of Minecraft, but more like the survival test than 1.0.

They're good for something made in 48 hours.

Dude. It was made in 48 hours or less! Did you expect full featured Minecraft? That took years of development from the Mojang team!

I LOVE this game. But how do you place stone? And I can't find how to get iron...

Okay, if I make a cake in 5 minutes and it tastes horrible, are you going to say 'It was a great cake for something made in 5 minutes'?

He only had 48 hours, you could choose to make the cake over a longer period, but the point was that you make a game in 48 hours.

._.
Nope. But you, nor anybody else on Scratch could do in 48 hours.

I got 2002 points before I died.
What is dirt for and how do you get iron and the other ores?

One did, you probably know who
And what if it was a cake baking competition? I mean there are some good games, so the others being bad have no excuse

I disagree...
Notch is not the only great programmer out there. Many older scratchers could probably do something similar.

That's the point, the fastest and best win, but cake baking competitions don't normally last 5 minutes, because it's extremely hard to bake a cake in 5 minutes, a more suited time makes it better.

The point is that the developers are rushed. Notch can't go through alpha and beta, then stall the adventure update for minicraft (stupid autocorrect thinks I want to say mini raft!). He has 48 hours to come up with an idea, develop it, AND work out bugs/improvements. Ludlum Dare isn't something where you can sell the game after 48 hours. Making a truly good game takes weeks, months, and sometimes even years(!!!) before they are sold.
Edit: it all sounds like we're defending Notch, but I for one am defending all of the people in the competition. YOU take the Ludum Dare in a REAL programming language like Java and see what you can put out. If it is horrible there is absolutely no excuse, you know. [/sarcasm]

Okay the cake thing is just an example, I know you can't bake a cake in 5 minutes.
Everybody is missing my point though, I know they were rushed, I know they didn't go through Betas and Alphas, but that doesn't mean the games aren't bad. You don't all have to defend against my opinion. I just think most of the games weren't great this year.

Andres is not flaming, I have looked at some of the games and there is some serious quality dilution. Not to say that there aren't a few shining games, though. A lot can be done in 48 hours. 700 games is a lot to look through.
In short, I have to disagree with the majority. Sorry.
I personally don't think I would do any better if I entered, though.
