I've been seeing previews and trailers for the new Mario game Super Mario 3D Land and I've noticed that this is the first Mario game that has not really had me interested.
I loved Mario 64 and New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Galaxy was alright but this new Mario just dosn't seem right. I mean to begin with, it has a stupid name and the '3D' part is just an advertising gimmick and why is the heath system like the one in the side scrolling games? Where's the 'pie' health bar from Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy gone?
I'd like to see other people's opinions as well.

The game looks OSSIM (I'm getting it), put the title could be better.

It's awesome. I have it and the power ups feel much more needed and the health system is great. I like how they've finally made old school Mario 3D without changing the formula.

Title is a reference to the Super Mario Land games.
What's strage is that there WAS a Super Mario Land 3.

I would be used to it, as you use the same hand to control Mario as you do when you play New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Which I play a lot), but there should be an option to switch to the D-Pad. The D-Pad is now like the XBOX 360 D-Pad, it has no purpose.

I finally played Mario 3D Land and while I'm not overally dissapointed I'm not really happy either. I started a new game on my friends 3DS over breakfast at his house and got to World 4 within 15 of starting my game. I'm sorry but that's actually apalling and I can't believe i'm saying that about a Mario game! When I finally got to the special worlds I was relieved, I finally got a challenge and an actual reason to play the game. I'm actually quite sad about 3D land. I love the retro refrences and the graphics are fresh and exciting but I'm afraid the lack of a challenge has put me off buying a 3DS. I found myself buying a second hand GBA SP the other day when I could have got a 3DS. Oh well, hopefully Mario Kart 7 can get me to buy one.

If you want the stupid "pie" health bar for this game, you are against new things. I like the feeling of powerr-ups being a reward more than a "OMG GET THE STAR BY USING FIRE FLOWER OMG LOL".
I have nothing against new things it's just that I felt the old school health system was out of place. I love it when Nintendo revolutionizes their games with a new feature but for me that wasn't one of them.
