Here on the SCRATCH website, whenever someone comments on one of your projects or replies to one of your comments, you get a message saying that someone responded to your project or that someone has replied to your comment. But each time, you would have to go to the page of a particular project in order to respond back. For those with slow internet connections, going to a project page can be slow and time consuming.
Would it be possible to, say, be able preview the comments within the message centre and to automatically respond back within the message centre?

I agree...it can be very time consuming hopping from project to project and waiting for each one to load up. Being able to view comments and respond to them without having the project (and all the other comments) load would really save a lot of time. I wonder how hard it would be to make this happen?

Actually, most Scratchers don't get a lot of messages anyway to consider this a serious global issue. But still, it would be quite helpful.

Hmm, I think that depends on the way the message centre works and is set up. Some websites have been able to implement such a system into their message centre fairly easily.

What websites would those be? It might be nice to take a look and see what we can learn!

Right off the top of my head, the the best example website that comes to mind would be the art website deviantART (www.deviantart.com); it can analogously be applied to the SCRATCH website (just, instead of people submitting art works at deviantART, think of it as people submitting projects to SCRATCH )
Here is an example of their interface (images taken from my account):
(You will probably need an account to see this in action, however.)
deviantART's forum is also attached to this messaging interface (that is, when someone posts a reply in your forum thread, or when someone replied to a comment you made in a forum thread, the response shows up in the message centre). I guess that could be another suggestion (assuming the the first one is implemented first).

Wow, thanks for taking the time to edit up that screenshot! After I downloaded it I could read all your great annotations. That really makes it clear. I like that look a lot. What do other people think?

I don't think it would hurt to bump this topic again, I would really like to see this happen. Perhaps most SCRATCHers don't get enough messages to see this as a big deal, but in cases of very slow internet connections, very large projects, or when servers are overloaded, I think this can be pretty helpful.
In addition, I think a Preview and Response system applied to the message centre would also be advantageous for those who have responded to projects having a long list of comments: I think it would be easier to see individual responses instead of having to read and sift through entire pages of comments to find your buried one.

I talked to some other Scratch Team members about this...there is definitely interest in something along these lines.

Yeah - I have a 20mbps download speed and Scratch is the only website to load slow 'round here. Half the time all I want to do is access the comments so it would be nice to have this happen quicker. Having faster loading times for projects would be nice also but totally beyond the point.
