New to Scratch and Making Games - Could use a hand with first project

Hey everyone,

I'm a long time gamer / former modder and have decided to take a first stab at making games for myself. I've heard that Scratch is a great way to understand the basic fundamentals of game design so here I am with my first project. Cat Pong!

I've made a start with the project, but I've run into some problems that I haven't been able to solve yet, so I'd be gratefull if someone could show me how to fix / add in the following bits and pieces.

Sorted Issues
1) At the moment when the cat hits either the top or bottom spikes, it says the message for a certain time and then stops moving. Is it possible to have the motion stop immediately but still have it saying the message

2) If you download the thing and open it in scratch, I'm looking for a way to have sprite 1 hidden at the beginning of the game (I know how to do this) and then bring it to the front when the cat hits the spikes. Its a fail message  tongue

That's all for now, I've got quite a few cool ideas that I plan on building in later so I'll likely have more questions to ask. Hope you can help me out here

I took a stab at addressing your first issue in the project comments.  Hope you find it useful  smile

Thanks for the help. I'll have a look at your suggestion later on in the day and hopefully it will sort out the issue  smile

-E-

Awesomeness, it worked  big_smile

Managed to link everything to the variable changing so i didn't need the use the stop all block at all.  Now to sort out the issue of the cat not always "killing itself" when it hits the spikes - wonder where that bug came from though, it was working fine before.

Guess its time to check out an older version to find out.

Re: New to Scratch and Making Games - Could use a hand with first project

Managed to almost complete the Main Menu Interface for my Cat Pong Project.

Current Feature Set
   * Background Music
   * Functional Interface
   * Button Highlights
   * Completed Instructions & Credits Section

Pending Implementation
    * Addition of Cat Pong Game to it

The interface isn't 100% completed yet, so would appreciate any feedback on how to improve it  tongue
