evil plan. DOC extension clarification needed

Ok, so I have this piece of homework due on Friday, where I have the choice of emailing my report to my teacher. If I open up the compiled .doc file in Python in binary mode and insert a bunch of binary characters in there (say 010), will it corrupt the file and prevent it from being opened?
