You can still die by falling...
The Portal mod isn't complete without protection for that sort of thing (long fall boots, anyone?)... and better portal collision detection.

I Think the classic doesn't have any creepers.

You can stay on peaceful.
It's lame.
Really really really lame.
Creepers are all that minecraft stands for!

Yeah. Buy it, then, on the main menu, go to "Options", and then click on the difficulty button until it changes to "Peaceful". Never touch it again.

I thought that the difficultly settings (with the exception of peaceful) only affected how much damage mobs did, not how much they spawned.
Both.
No, only damage.

Minecraft Creepers: once you hear them hiss, you're too late
Lol yeah. i like creepers and enders but i hate all the other ones. i wish i could play it with just them. enders don't bother people so they are cool.
You could download a mod. And you really don't have to worry about creepers, because you rarely see them in Hard mode, so if you put it on easy, they'd be practically non existent.
Related: I built my home area into the side of a mountain, which meant that to get in/out of in, I had to do a lot of climbing up and down. There is one area where the climb down a really long ladder and then my front door is right there. So one time I was climbing down that ladder, and when I got to the bottom, I realized I had to go back out. So i turned around, and there was a creeper right in front of me. The only way he could've gotten there was if he fell down the ladder, but it was too high for any mob to survive a fall...how the HECK did he get there?
tl;dr: I was climbing down a really tall ladder, and when I got to the bottom I turned around to go back up, only I found a creeper and it exploded.
He might have spawned in there or fell down at the same time as touching the ladder.

Okay, my day in MC: Built a house, mined diamond and put in chest. Died by falling off of my house-cliff, and respawned far away from my house. I fell in a dry riverbed, with no way to commit suicide. I have no supplies except 3 pumpkins and a bookshelf. I've been trying to get out of the riverbed and find my house for the past, say, four hours.
Yesterday, I forgot to go on peaceful, and a creeper blew up my mine. Of TNT. (place where I store at least, 300 tnt.)
So, um, yeah, I hate creepers.

I did, and put torches over it, not knowing it would block it.
