Prime example: That poster who posted about the kid stabbing them. What does that have to do with Scratch? Tell a parent instead of telling people who can't do anything but talk to you!777w wrote:

People can post about whatever they want. If they're having an issue in their life, they can talk about it. Sometimes talking about things with people you don't know in real life makes it feel better, but I'm not one to judge. You can not like the content of Miscellaneous, but that doesn't give you any right to complain about it. It is what it is and it's not going to change, especially because of the opinion of one user who doesn't care about what other people think and isn't willing to just ignore the threads about things he doesn't care about. I mean, seriously?

I'm going to try to end this conversation now
Since you are really big about the topics here being related to Scratch, why don't you just post some topics you would like to see here?

Why remove misc?

You aren't listening.
The people who post here are posting about strange and unusual and out-of-the-blue things. Personal life posts? Can't you just link us to your Twitter account please?
YouTube? Really? Make an official YT thread, jeez
MineCraft Servers? Meh... well, IDK. They're now too embedded in the forum to be changed.
And people who post about the things in their life going wrong need to really change that instead of posting a step-by-step onto the forums....
And I can't ignore 95% of the forum when it's all about random sporadic things that everyone feels the urge to post without thinking if it's semi-related to Scratch?
The worst is personal life. People post here like it's a mass of blogging. Why?

It never says unrelated.
If it doesn't fit is it's description.
And the heading says "Inspiration and More"
This forum doesn't inspire anyone as far about Scratch as far as I can see...
I HAVE AN IDEA THAT WILL CAUSE THE MISC COMMUNITY TO STAY LIKE THIS AND KEEP MY SANITY INTACT!
Move all the stuff about coding and such to Advanced Topics and then move all the Scratch Stuff to AAS/Collabs and change the description of this forum to "For chatting about things unrelated to Scratch"

As I said before, if you don't like it, leave. It's not going to change. People post about what they care about, and other people show that they care too by responding. If a topic doesn't get replies, it disappears fast. If you don't care about something that lots of other users care about, too bad. There will be threads on the topic and you won't be able to just make them go away because people care. I feel like that's utterly disrespectful to say that I'm not listening. I know exactly what you think is the problem. I don't like a lot of the content of Miscellaneous either, but I'm sticking up for it because it's an integral part of the community. If someone wants to share a YouTube link and then people look at it, think it's interesting, and discuss it, I think that they should jolly well have the right to do that. I also happen to think that learning about people's personal lives (in moderation of course) can be interesting and help me understand the community better.
And I only see people post about their personal life if they have some sort of question that they'd like the community to answer. An example I can think of right now is a thread by Alternatives where he explained a situation and then asked whether people thought he should attend a detention even though several of his friends wouldn't.

But here's the part that trips me up now...
Why are no chatrooms in the forum allowed? This entire forum is a mass of topics unrelated, like a chatroom... and we need like a Journals section in this subsection, like the Swell Forums, ironically, where people can keep a journal and separate it from things like MineCraft and the Mod elections...
...all I'm asking is that we can organize this forum and keep it somewhat useful and maybe actually make it inspire more than it currently does...
@777w: A forum dedicated to chatrooms definitely fits in more.

Lets say that we didn't have the Miscellaneous forums. This may not be the best example but you know what I am trying to say here. Lets say someone wants to do a project on Minecraft but does not have enough information to do so. So they post in the All About Scratch section asking for someone to help them come up with ideas or make a list. Well, it does not have to do with Scratch but where would the thread go? It would go here.
That may not be the best example but you can see where I was going with this.

I'm fine with MC stuff. It represents a large-scale interest in the community, and that should work.
All I wish for is to seperate the small, sporadic, strange things from the large-scale interests in the forum. By organizing the place.

It's like a chatroom, but each thread has its own topic and it's usually pretty organised. If we had a journals section, then people would use Scratch for a blog. There are some users who post random threads ("Good night!", "I have a headache", "I'm going to brush my teeth!", etc.) and I don't agree with having these topics but they usually get closed or ignored quickly.
