...they're not. Really. Today, I tried to make a simple, 2 minute long animated Scratch video. I discovered that not only do I not have to concentration, determination and attention span, I also am at loss for how to synchronize all the settings and sprites. And good art. Not to mention my constant lack of ideas.
First of all, kudos to those who can manage a popular animation. I have gained an immense amount of respect for them.
Second, here's what I did learn with my 2 hours of hard work:
• Broadcasts are indispensable. Don't try to simplify life with [wait until <var=true>] tricks, it backfires big time. In fact, for a complex animation, you'll need some mildly complex programming knowledge just to synchronize two events.
• You need concentration. My goal for 2 minutes of animation collapsed to nine seconds. Call me nitpicky if you will, but it took 2 hours to perfect 9 seconds.
• You need to have art skills. You cannot make do with the Scratch paint editor. A realistic animation needs hours just at the spritesheets.
• You need to have way too much time on your hands and no homework. Make it a weekend job.

I agree, this is exactly the reason I don't attempt animations!

Agreed. So many people look at animations at the front page and go, "Oh. They shouldn't be there. It's just a bunch of artwork moving around. That's easy to do."
But yes, it isn't easy. The good animations go to the front page for a reason.

I love to see how people give life to thoughts and ideas. Artwork, games, animations, music. Expression is amazing.
I believe that it is the thought that counts. When animation is done with effort, brilliant results ensue. When something is slapped together for "the lulz" and because it's the popular thing to do, ehhh.
Nine times out of ten, you can see the difference.
I'd really admire a thought-out animation, if I ever see one here. I don't really browse much, though. If you have any examples I'd love to see them, though

Yeah. I sorta envy the skills of those who CAN animate. People are commenting to Swifty2 and users like him: "Oh, I waited a month for this 30-second animation? Gosh. SSLLLLOOOWWW." Well, try it yourself. You'll find out it isn't as easy as it looks. I tried it myself. Don't believe all of us? Try it yourself. You'll see. _meow_
