I support, they did this on Wurm online, as it was rated 18+ due to the community swearing. They forced the censor on accounts with the owner's age under 14, and if they lied then they couldn't really complain about the swearing as:

1. They lied, it's their fault.
2. There's a censor which you can turn on and off anyway (unless you're under 14 ofcourse, then it'd be locked on on).

This wouldn't split the community, this'd enrich it, if the project owner wanted a younger audience to view it they'd at least make another project which is censored. If Scratch had a censor which was locked at on when the owner is under 14 it'd indeed enrich it, if on a Minecraft server topic someone said "Banned XXXX for saying the c word" people can then get a lot of bad words from that. And if they lie about their age then complain about swearing then that's their own fault.

So we can see this system WILL work if the scratch team decides on it.  big_smile  Thanks!

Not fair!! For example, if there was a song with swear words, the words would be sensored, and the song wouldn't make sense. Sentences don't make sense if all the words aren't in them.

O.O
You WANT to listen to music like that?
The user can simply find a clean version of the song on the internet.  smile
If you want to listen to that junk then I suggest you listen to it aside from scratch, on the radio, Media Players, iPod, any kind of phone these days XD, etc. (Not that the song is junk, its only the bad words that are junk)

As ponify has already proven, it is possible to change already typed words. For example, on mine.

The f-word turns into buck (horse-wise bucking).
Hell turns into hay.
Etc.

The word could be replaced with a substitute. As for the song, the owner can make 2 different projects if s/he wanted to get the optimal audience, 1 with no music/clean version and one original one.

I think it should be replaced with the meaning, unless of course it has a bad meaning, so the H word would turn to Heck B word to female dog, etc.
It would be nice if this happened. And if the word is bad and has a bad meaning it would replace it with [censored] or something.

Re: Scratch for teens

This isn't really an idea the scratch team will do. It is nice but not an idea the scratch team would do. Scratch is made for kids 5+ so a scratch for teens is nice but not a very good idea. if you want to swear use Youtube or DeviantART. Cause scratch is for all ages. If scratch was for teens only they would have an age limit of 13, but they don't cause it's a all ages website. Sorry if If i sound rude or mean but it's the truth. Scratch is for all ages so scratch for teens only cannot be possible.

Well.... You'd have to make your own web server because the site needs Memcached to run.

I don't want to swear, just some things like bloody projects should not be on scratch, but there are so many, I've seen some being featured, so the Scratch team wont remove bloody ones, but if it blocked them for young ages...  wink

Ik this has been suggested before but i think before it was suggested in the wrong way.

It would be simply a way of hiding projects topics or even posts which may be inappropriate for younger ages, but in a good way.

For instance, if I made a game with a lot of blood, it would be inappropriate for a two year old, and since scratch knows your age, anyone above a certain age would not even know about it!

Heres how it works, someone posts a project and they can choose weather they think it has, Blood, Crude Behavior, Mildly Bad Words (like the cr words) etc. It would then if it had any of these would only allow older people to view it.

For instance some of Swifty episodes he says the Cr words. They would be put for older ages ONLY.

This would also encourage people to make games without bad words or blood in them, so that more people could view, love, favorite, download, and remix.

What if someone was dishonest and their project had blood in it?

Then It could be reported as a project with blood in it.  smile

But this wont make scratch less safe, it will only make it so younger ages wont see what is kept on scratch. Blood is allowed on scratch, and some parents might not allow their children to use scratch because of it. (like one of my friends...) This would make it so that there wouldn't be blood on scratch for user who don't want it.  big_smile  Get it?

Re: Scratch for teens

I posted a project once, it had the background music to a great song, but paddle2see recommended that I remove a link to the video (Warning for mild words) because it sampled the song "6 little eggs", in which penguin eggs apparently mate with each other and then explode (??!) but there is no censored version. Also in the beginning, that part might not be considered appropriate.

But I did not want to remove the link. paddle2see said that I should let people google search it themselves but I didn't think it was a big deal... I thought back to when I was younger, and decided that I would not have thought it was inappropriate.

this sort of thing is a problem with the way that Scratch Content is limited.
