Thanks. I'm really passionate about music, so I try and listen to a lot of it and know a lot about it.

Yeah, The Black Parade is a very emotional album. Most music has some sort of emotion, whether it be happiness, sadness, love, hate, anger, etc. A lot of Eminem's songs are emotional, but is he emo? A lot of Metallica's songs are emotional, but are they emo? A lot of The Clash's songs are emotional, but are they emo? If "emo" means emotional, then all those musicians would be.
I made this post quite a while back and you still haven't replied to it, TDD. Please do so.
Sorry, been on other sites. I just got wound up by Andres, sorry >.>
'Emo' music/artists tend to have/use lyrics such as death, depression, suicide, rather than emotions like love and that; ya get me? I get where you're coming from, just saying that it's generally songs like that that get labelled emo. c:
I love Metallica, btw. :3
Metallica and Eminem have some lyrics about death, depression, and suicide too. Are they emo? Of course not. So if they aren't emo, then why should My Chemical Romance be?
And Fall Out Boy don't have that many lyrics about death, depression, and suicide. They aren't emo either; even less so than My Chemical Romance.

Well, Eminem does use very self-confessional lyrics, and if he was more of a rocker than a rapper then yes, he would probably be considered 'emo'. 'emo' music's origins are labelled as Hardcore Punk, and indie rock. Yet with many shifts in cultures, a wider range of rock is now considered 'emo'.

I think I have to remind folks that, yes, this is a programming site, mainly intended for children. And while we respect those that have the courage to share their very emotional and painful experiences - our main goal is to make Scratch a safe and friendly place for all ages to learn and share their Scratch creations. I feel that these highly emotional and dark topics are not contributing towards that goal. Lighten up or move the discussion to some other site, please.

I know Paddle; but if that's how you see it you should just close Misc 'cos NONE of the discussion here is 'contributing towards programming'

Don't give him that idea!!!!
Jk.
I agree. Misc isn't about programming. Misc is about sharing thoughts and ideas and feelings, not how to snap blocks together.

It's true that Misc is an open topic area - but that doesn't mean that there are no limits. We still want to keep Scratch appropriate for all ages - and I don't think discussions about suicide and other destructive behaviors fall into that category. Yes, they are a problem for many people - but this is not the best place to look for answers.
All I'm asking is that you keep the topic on-topic. Discuss Emo culture and look for commonality. Report spam and flamebait so it can be removed and prevent off-topic diversions. This topic is taking way too much care and feeding

Why did they choose rock instead of rap? And Metallica's a rock band. Are they emo?

And you spelled 'spammy' wrong.

I'm not emo but my girlfriend is!

I used to be, but then my favorite band (my name) turned to pop, and I just gave up seeming everyone else was stopping so I didn't want to be left behind.
I never did cut, but people who bullied me were obsessed with thinking I did, I showed them my wrists and they still wouldn't believe me, even though they were looking at the proof.

Your girlfriend's emotive hardcore punk?
What do you mean by that? Does she like that kind of music? Does she play in a band that plays that kind of music? If not, then that makes no sense.

She is the music. It's her.

Haha, dude, it's an expression...
@Andres: It's a possibility

I know the scratcher JaimeeRules. Just look at her profile picture and you'll see what I mean! She can play the the guitar really well though and we even have our own band!

Bump I guess.
MCR and FOB are not emo. My Chemical Romance is pop-punk/alternative rock and Fall Out Boy is a pop rock band that was created by a group of mad scientists who knew that they would be popular.

Depends who's labelling it. Everyone has a different opinion on everything, no matter big or small ^_^

Ok get over it already. It's been established that they're not using the original meaning of Emo as in Emotive rock, but 'Emotional' sounding Music

But yeah, it wasn't to so with emo culture.Stop cutting! You can kill yourself!
That used too be my mission... what I wanted.
But the whole school found out & now I had counselling I think I'll be okay :')
@Vanilla - Heh, nyan cat xD
What on earth made that your mission? There are so many beautiful things to live for, like family and friends. If you took your own life, you would cause unimaginable grief for everyone you know. Plus, you have Scratch. It would be sad to lose you.

Most people who feel suicidal just can't help it. They just naturally feel like life's not worth living, and there's nothing they can do on their own to help it.

BTW a few posts ago I said my girlfriend was emo and I was in an emo band but that isn't true. Someone hacked me and posted it because there are rumors of me being a massive emo at school
