Scratch is based off of Squeak, which is based off of Java.

Java is a real programming language.

Therefore, Scratch is a real programming language.

Simple logic.

Actually, Squeak is based off Small Talk, but still, I don't get why Scratch isn't a programming language already.

It is a real programming language but it is very limited in what you can do with it

What defines a real programming language from a non-real one?

Scratch was made to be a simple for everyone programming language.
So that anyone can program.
It would make it harder if it was text and not drag and drop.

But it would make it way less laggier, especially if you have giant blocks. Look at my only project that's still up, even my fastest computer can barely move those giant blocks around. Jeez, that's why I stopped using the program actually.

Re: Do you think scratch could become a real programming language?

It is a real programming language. But I presume you are talking about Scratch being used for more mainstream internet games and possibly even apps. Well, I believe not. It's meant to be a starting block, not a platform for professional developers to utilise. But I think it will become a lot more popular.

I might return for a little while.
