It's jerkish because they used a version that was in development that was illegally leaked by a German hacker, who while taking the source code, rummaged around Gabe's personal emails, and installed keyloggers on several of Valve's machines.

Actually, seems like an ideal virus insertion method to me. While perverts run the game and look at everything, it just goes ahead and deletes everything on the hard drive except for 1: Windows and B: The game.
