Scratch Linux - Well Sort of...

My Dad has installed Ubuntu 7.10 with WINE and then installed Scratch.
Works like a dream :-)
Thanks Dad.
It's all free software.

Re: Scratch Linux - Well Sort of...

Ubuntu 7.10 is a Linux distribution (Gutsy Gibbon) and WINE is an emulator that runs Windows applications under Linux.

And how can I use this programm for my projects?

You use it by running Scratch under WINE, which will open it as a Linux program.
You can then use Scratch on Linux.

Re: Scratch Linux - Well Sort of...

Is it possible to run scratch using linux other then wine, or do you have to have windows?
If not is it possible to upload from the website?

Re: Scratch Linux - Well Sort of...

I can run Scratch in a limited fashion (no audio or video effects) by installing squeak, and running the scratch image!

Here are the step-by-step instructions for Ubuntu, probably works the same on any Debian derivative:

sudo aptitude install squeak wget unzip
wget http://scratch.mit.edu/files/WinScratch.zip
unzip WinScratch.zip
squeak Scratch/Scratch.image

Enjoy!

Re: Scratch Linux - Well Sort of...

What version of Wine were you using?  I'm using 0.9.25 on an EEE PC.  I can run Scratch, but the cursor stays stuck in the center.  I have to Alt-F4 to close it.

Thanks for any help.
