Windows Movie Maker help please!!!

I know most of you probably use video editing software that's WAY more complicated than WMM, but anyway:

Whenever I try to save a video, it always makes the width and height the same, meaning it gets stretched. Is there a way to enter what height you want the video to be, and the same with width?

Thanks!  smile

I would suggest Wax 2.0. It's kinda complicated, but if you look up tutorials it gets easy. I LOVE it. It has everything. It's not professional, but close to it. It's also free. The reason I like it is because it has chroma keying, and I have a green screen, so that's great (Chroma keying is when you film a video with a green screen in the background, and you can key out the green and make it look like you are in a totally different place. It's so fun. One time I made myself look like I was in outer space). It also let's you have free effects like split screens. You can get it at debugmode.com.  big_smile

Re: Windows Movie Maker help please!!!

Does that on my videos too and because many of Microsoft's programmers are drunken monkeys on caffeine, it's very likely there's no "fix" for this. Just look at the way Internet Crashplorer, WiMP (Windows Media Player) and WinFail Vista turned out: complete failures. Also, my WMM crashes and hangs when trying to do anything with video. When I try to save a movie, it either force-quits itself or just sits around doing absolutely nothing. Get better movie making software. WMM isn't worth the C it's coded in.

Re: Windows Movie Maker help please!!!

WMP always tries to make it 4:3, and I think that's the problem.

Best solution: GetaMac

Other solution: Get a free alternative http://alternativeto.net/software/windows-movie-maker/

Does it look ok in movie maker, but when you view it in media player, after you've saved it, it's messed up?

That's why it's free. :p

It's not made for professional production. Just an easy, straightforward way to make simple revisions to home videos, or create slide shows. A lot of people expect it to be something that it just isn't and push it to it's breaking point, then they complain giving the program a bad rep after it wouldn't render their 30min 1080p presentation on the beauty of HD media.
That's simply is not what this program is made for, and should not be expected from it.

Well the last time I used it I was trying to add a new audio track to a 30 sec video I had and it couldn't even do that. It just crashed itself.

The better question is: "Where do I even start?" Windows Vista is a VERY unstable (excuse for an) operating system. When it boots (or tries to anyway) and/or during general use, it starts playing Russian Roulette with your data. The worst case scenario is staring at the boot screen with all Safe Modes showing you the Black Screen of Death at logon (or not even getting past the DOSish Loading Files screen).

Re: Windows Movie Maker help please!!!

I don't have WMM on this computer, but if I recall correctly there's an option in the video export section to adjust the resolution/aspect ratio. At the very least there should be an option to letterbox videos that don't fit the aspect ratio. Just poke around in the settings a little and you should find it.

Agreed, there is even a 1080p setting, but you really should look at getting a different program. WMM is very outdated.

No offence but, I think you may need a new computer. It runs just fine on my 2.3 quad, Vista 64bit PC. But running it on my laptop, ya I see what you mean. :p

Well, first of all I find it amusing that your trying to school me on the performance/ reliability of Vista, considering it’s all I’ve used for the last 2-3 years and I use it for about 8 hours a day (on week days) to do school work. With that said I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I have more experience with this OS that you, and in my opinion your description is quite frankly, not even remotely equivalent to my actual experiences with Vista. My family currently owns 8 computers, all running on either Vista or W7 and we have encountered very little OS based problems with our PC’s. Occasionally (around 6 months) we’ll get a blue screen upon start up but as far as I know it’s harmless.

I love Windows, ever since my very first laptop that ran on Windows 95, to my latest Gaming PC that running Vista 64bit. They sometimes have issues but no program is perfect.
My original laptop is now over 15 years old; and still running! If that’s not a reason to stick with a brand, I don’t know what is.
