Well, me and a group of my friends got detention today, for something really stupid. After assembly, we came to the class a little earlier than the others, and decided to pull a prank on them, by pretending to lock the class door.

Well, my teacher and fellow pupils took it very seriously, and now me and the others have to sit from 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturday.

But anyway, when she wrote down the names on the classboard, she left out my name. I didn't bother to remind her, because I thought she knew.

My friends took it okay when we found out I didn't have to sit, they said I got lucky, and their happy for me. But I can't help feeling guilty, even though none of them are going to bother going.

What do I do? Go or stay?

You should go because you were part of it. If your friends aren't going, they're probably going to get in even more trouble for ditching detention.

There is only a week of school left before our break, and of the week there is only one day we can get detention. We might get in trouble, but not in major because they can only do so much, but a few of my friends are going.

four freaking hours?

at my school the longest detention is like an hour and a half.

don't go, you can't get in trouble, can you?

If none of your friends are going, why bother going yourself? If they are though, then I'd probably go if I were you. Eventually, it will slip out that the teacher missed you out and you didn't correct them, and then teachers will probably never trust you again.

They are allowed to force you to sit in school for four hours on the weekend? How on earth is that even legal?

Yes, GO. I'm sorry, that's my strong opinion and I'm sticking to it. I'm a goodie-two-shoes and I would personally go. xD I'm sorry that it's four hours (That's awful!) but you should still go unless you don't care how it'll affect anyone else (Not in a mean way, I just mean if you don't care if your teacher trusts you or not.)

It's perfectly legal, as long as the district board authorizes it.

But it was the teacher's mistake, not the student's. Maybe the student didn't notice? Maybe the teacher thought that the student shouldn't go to detention? There are numerous reasons why the student shouldn't be punished.
