Swearing

How stupid is swearing?  mad  Just words that have bad meanings that you're not supposed to say. I'm not complaining the fact that I can't say them, I don't want to. I'm complaining the fact that they exist. I would prefer to live in a world where you can say and made up word without worrying that it might be a swear word that you didn't know about.

I mean, some swear words don't even have meanings or have meanings that are used in everyday life. It's just stupid.

Who agrees?

Re: Swearing

Almost every word has a meaning, though most mean really bad and rude things others are just words for things that have lots of other ways of saying.

You mean almost every swear word has a meaning?

Take the meaning excrement. There are many good ways of saying it, like I just did, or you can swear. It means the same thing yet one meaning is "bad" and one is "good." How stupid is this?

Insults are, swearing does not have to be.

Re: Swearing

I swear mildly, not any major f-bombs and not to insult people, but I'll let out a little sugar-honey-ice-tea when I'm annoyed.

Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.

Re: Swearing

"A word" = bad
"A word" = butt
butt = bad?

That logic seems messed up IMO.

One of my teachers complains that same logic with an alternative to the f-bomb, but then she apparently ignores this. It's a WORD. If "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me" then why do we consider words offensive? The whole thing is messed up, if you ask me.

and the above post? +1

No you need it like this:
Some "A word" is bad
Some "a word" is butt
Some butt is bad
^Also that is invalid, just because some of it is this and some is that doesn't mean some is both  big_smile ^
(I take collage leveled Logic)

Minuseth oneth

I hate swear words, they are worse than spam. (duh)

Swear words are made to insult people and to help make the person saying them FEEL good. When I say a swear word I don't feel any better, I feel guilt.

Actually I don't remember ever saying one... but I do remember thinking it, and that still brought me guilt.

Truth is we all know its wrong, just we WANT to use them.

Like some other temptations of this world, smoking, drugs etc.
Once you start it gets worse and worse.

Re: Swearing

Pecola, thats the logic of an over excited 7 year old.

Swear words aren't just to insult people, they are to let out frustration, they are only words.

Re: Swearing

When people swear at me, I don't worry, because I know the limits of words.
It's not like they really can hurt me with it.

But I can also understand that they might just  be frustrated with something, and they just happen to let it all out on me.

Re: Swearing

I'm never hurt by words, unless they hold truth. If someone calls me something involving a swear I really don't care, it's as pointless as calling someone a pineapple. If one of my family members tells me something upsetting about my past (there's a lot I still don't know) then I may be upset, but not when someone swears to or at me.

Re: Swearing

Let me guess, you were trying to make up a word and you then were told it was a bad word.

What do you mean my level? Most likely I'm older and more mature than you. For example, you freak out if someone says a certain word, but its just a word.

No, I simply don't like it, its immature to think bad words are any of the following:
1. Funny
2. Cool
3. Good to use
4. Smart
5. etc.
