First of all, I would like to say welcome to scratch.
Scratch is a wonderful program and has a wonderful community to go along with it. While we sometimes have those bad seeds, most people here are kind and will (try to at the best of their ability) to help you with any problems you may have, with the program itself or otherwise. I hope you enjoy scratch, and enjoy what the community was to offer.
Need sprites/sounds/anything else for a game? Try the requests forum.
Need help with a scratch script or do not understand something? Try All about scratch
Looking for a new project to check out? Try Show and Tell
As you can see, if you need or want something, or you need an explanation on something, just ask on the forums, we'll be glad to help.
Because you are new, I suggest you read the Community Guidelines to find out the rules we have here, and read the Getting started guide to get a nice jumpstart on your way to your first project. And if you are going to spend more time on the forums, I suggest you check out the BBCode Guide.
Thank you, and scratch on! (one of our two mottos, the other being 'Imagine, Program, Share')

A nice welcome! I'm not sure about the "bad seeds" comment though - you could leave that out and still send the same message "Most people here are kind...". And I think you have a typo in the last sentence of the first paragraph: "community has to offer".
But I like the tone and the brief forum descriptions...some inline links to those forums would be even more effective, like you give for the various guides...those are very handy.
We had a couple of new New User guides submitted recently - it's probably time to take a fresh look at how and what we are presenting and if we can incorporate them in some sort of organized framework. Thanks for taking the time to make this

Maybe you can edit it, because I am not yet a Scratcher.
Thank you, this is my first mod comment on either this account or my main one. I made this for a fresh start.

Lol, "what the community was to offer".
Anyway, great short guide. I'm sure you'll be a great scratcher.

If you keep posting as informative as you have been, you'll soon have that Scratcher status!

For users who don't know how to use the "when I receive", "broadcast", and "broadcast and wait" blocks:
In order to receive, you have to broadcast.
First, click on the arrow on the broadcast block.
Next, you will be able to create a command. Type in whatever name of it you want.
Then, if you're in another category, click on "Control". scroll down until you see the "When I Recieve" block. If you type in, "jump", you should see "When I Receive ( jump ).
It should look like this:
<when I receive[ jump ]>
